No, Donny, the tiers cannot close or open wider (due to the design constraints). The arms have a minimum length, that can be extended to accomodate bigger keyboards (Pro model) but the angle between the arms cannot be changed.
Thats a shame that means I have to carry a shelf to put a laptop on the second tier Arggggg! ;(
