Well, The SxA 100 only has an XLR for the Mic and a 1/4” jack for the keyboard. So I will need a mixer. I don’t like that because if I have to use a mixer I think my 15” TLS 5 Peaveys sound the best and they weigh 43 lbs like the Samson and the SxA 100. However, they are bigger..

Scott says he does not use a mixer. He comes out of his PSR 2000 with the Mic. My question is, Scott are you happy with having the Master settings the same on the SxA 100 for your voice and your keyboard, since you can’t set the channels different? Can you set the high and lows for the Mic separate from the keyboard through the PSR 2000? If so, I can see why you like the SxA so much.

I like to set the bass a bit higher on the Mic for singing “Goodnight My Love”, “What’s Your Name” etc., and I like to turn the reverb up also on the Mic.

The Samson EX30 wins hands down here because of it’s having a Master Gain, High, Low and Reverb. Also it has High, Low, Gain, Reverb and Pan on each separate channel. Then it has an XLR and a 1/4” jack on each channel also.

You see if I use my Nanoverb it only has 1/4” jacks. If I plug it into the 1/4” jack on the SxA 100, where do I plug my keyboard? Like I said, I don't like the idea of having to use a mixer with this speaker. I want to get out of all this gear and cable hauling.

This is turning out to be a nightmare for me unless I’m missing something here. Still being a greenhorn that is very possible. I may have to send the SxA 100 back. If you guys have a solution please tell.

The Samson would be great for a coffee shop etc., but probably may not handle a bigger dance hall like Donny plays.

How did you guys let me get back into this music stuff? Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow. Boy what would I do without a return policy. The local stores don't carry some of this stuff. I have to do mail order.

Disgusted,
Boo

Boo, the PSR2000, 9000 and of course Tyros, have extensive microphone processing, including 5-band dedicated e.q., two effects and compressor/limiter. Also, they have the built-in Vocal Harmony, with several pages of presets for that. The mic settings can be set to change with registration changes, or stay the same regardless of registration changes. There is also a "Talk" button that can be set to give an additional mic setup instantly.
In addition to the mic processing, the PSRs have a customizable overall parametric e.q., plus the capability to seperately e.q. each individual style part or voice.
I only need an external mixer when I have another musician playing with me.
To purchase all the extra processors that the PSRs include (even sampling on some of them) would cost more than the price of the keyboard itself.
. . . but no touch screen.

Boo,

The 1/4" jack is a "DUAL" input it will be able to accomodate both 1/4" and XLR

Right now I find myself using the Peavey Escort system for most of my jobs. We played two nursing homes yesterday with about 100 people at each. The little system handled them with no problem. It is ideal for small to medium-size jobs.
Setup time is minimal, it has rollers and is completely self-contained. Plus it is quite inexpensive. List price is $750 and you can expect to get at least 30% off that.

Yes, but unfortunately, the SxA100's OTHER mic input channel is XLR only (not dual).

Yes, I plug my mic directly into my keyboards (PSR2000/Tyros). My keyboards both include a built in dedicted mic EQ & channel mixer.

Boo, here are three options, short of having to drag along a dedicated mixer:

1) Plug your mic into the Alesis Nanoverb and then connect your Nanoverb into your keyboard (keyboard audio input). The output of your keyboard should now INCLUDE your vocals.

2) Purchase a '2 to 1' Y connector plugging the Nanoverb & keyboard into the 2 inputs and pluggying the other 1/4" jack (output) into the the SxA100.

3) Purchase a 1/4" to XLR adapter and plug your Nanoverb into the Mic input on your SxA100 and your keyboard into the Master line in jack on your SxA100. I'm not sure if a 1/4" to XLR" adapter converts the 'line level' signal to XLR 'mic level signal' or not, but it's important that you find out before preceeding with this method.

Boo...
Everyone here is trying to help you adapt to the EV's capabilities and you are getting some good advice.

If, in the end, you feel it is not what you were expecting and is not workable, let me throw another possibility into the mix.

Replace the powered speakers with passive speakers and get a good 4 channel powered mixer. The entire set up would be less expensive, much lighter and give you all the capabilities you have expressed.

Ok... so you will have 3 pieces to carry (amp and 2 speakers, still lighter than the two powered speakers) plus conventional wiring, but you will also have total control over each individual aspect of your KB and voice.

When I was trying to make the same decisions as you, I opted for JBL 1500's (only 37 lbs each) and am using a Peavey 6 channel head...but 4 channels would do me just fine. The little 4 channel powered mixer is very light and durable and affordable.

Should you need a monitor other than the internal speakers in your keyboard, you can use your Sampson directly out of your passive speakers or monitor jack in the amp.

These suggestions are just something to stick in the back of your head should you decide the EV's are not workable for you.

Boo,
since youlike the sound and power of the little Rogue so much - use THAT as your mixer and feed the signal into the EV up on a pole. That'll give you dedicated EQ, effects and monitor at the stage area, and a separate volume, EQ-able speaker/amp for the crowd to hear. It'll be mono, but until you decide what to use .... this is a fast, easy option that uses what YOU OWN.
