The entire 94MB contents of my SD card has been uploaded to: http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/27801236/92d1eef2/sharing.html?sId=GJ6WcHuv0zw3LIG6# Please note that there is an index to the styles there also. Many of you know more about the KN7000 structure than I, but will relay what I know. This is a zip file and should be downloaded to your computer and unzipped. There are several layers to get to the 99 folders. The numbered folders correspond to the index. Please note that you cannot send an entire folder to a floppy, as the KN cannot read beneath the folder itself. When you open a desired folder, you will see all of the comp, efc etc style parts for all 20 styles in a folder. You can copy them to a disk taking care to include all parts of a style. Some of you more technical members can chime in if you have an easier method. One important tip is to thoroughly explore your style for panel memories. Many have 8 and are very good. Some don't have any. Folks, there is enough here to keep you busy for a long time. Wheras you may not care to use them all, they are good nonetheless. Enjoy IP: Logged |

The easiest way to transfer Bernie's styles directly to an SD Card is as follows : Create a new filder on your desktop and download and unzip the file to the folder on your Desktop. Then do the following. 1. Format an SD Card in the KN7000 2. Copy any single file to the card to establish the KN7000 directory/file structure (PRIVATE > TECHNICS > KN7000) This can be just the current set-up on the KN7000 and need not include all options in Page 2! 3. Insert the SD Card in a USB Card reader/writer and connect to a USB port on your PC. 4. Click on the My Computer Icon on your PC and open the USB connected device - usually shown as a Removable Drive. 5. You should see a folder called 'PRIVATE' 6. Double click on the 'PRIVATE' folder and then double click on the 'TECHNICS' folder. 7. You should now see a folder called KN7000 which should be deleted, leaving the window blank. 8. Double click to open the folder which has Bernie's unzipped 'KN7000' folder - this should now be copied into the Blank window ie the SD Card. 9. There are several methods of copying the folder : Drag and Drop or Highlight the KN7000 folder > Press CTRL+C > Click in the Blank window and press CTRL+V etc. 10 The transfer process will then start and due to the size of the file, it will take quite some time! So Basically what you need to do is to replace the KN7000 folder which was created in Step 2, with Bernie's KN7000 folder...... Hello Bill, I do not want to complicate matters but I was wondering if there is any way we can use the SD Explorer Tool. e.g. upzip to new Folder on desktop, copy to blank SD Card, then use the tool to copy and Index the whole lot. It would then be ready to play. What do you think please? Audrey IP: Logged |

Hi Audrey, No need to use Fred's tool since Bernie's file is just about in a form ready to copy to an SD Card However, the directory structure is not quite complete to allow a direct copy - it does not include the root 'PRIVATE' folder and the Sub folder 'TECHNICS'. His 'root' folder is the 'KN7000' one, hence the procedure I described above. Once transferred, the Card will be ready to use..........You could use Fred's tool to copy the TFLD folders to a SD Card but it would take much longer, and lots of 'mouse clicks', since you can only copy one TFLD folder at a time to a Card. Hi Bernie, thank you. I may try a few more & see if I can convert them across to my korg. Even if only a few work, it'll be great. best wishes Rikki [QUOTE]Originally posted by Bernie9: IP: Logged |

Hi Rikki I am sure you could find enough to make it worth your while. The biggest loss to you is that the Panel Memories are all in there, and for those willing to explore styles that they might not use everyday, they will some very creative instrument combinations. I can say this because I did not create them. This collection is the best I've ever seen outside of the Americana Series. IP: Logged |

Thanks Bernie, I just downloaded the styles and it looks like there are a lot of useful styles for me. Thanks Bill for posting the procedure to copy to SD in a simple way. I noticed that you need a 256MB card at least. Based on Bernie's information of a 95MB file I tried to copy to a 128MB card but I got a fail message. Copying to a 256MB was succesful. Total data on SD-card is 203MB. I also made a back-up with SD card tool and back-up file is 95MB. Is this caused by the Technics stucture? Can anyone explain this? IP: Logged |

Thanks Bill and Bob. Now everything is OK.What I done I format a 2gig sd card from the KN7000.After I copy a backup styles that I had in my pc to the sd card, and I saw a folder sd-audio So I only delete the folders TFLD to be replace by the 99 folders and download to my KN7000 and was very happy with these styles.I dont known if it is normal the folders 30,32,33,35,37,66,69,85,92 and 99 where empty. For 89 folders I am satisfied. If I read my sd card on PC I have: +Private +Technics +KN7000 TFLD folders SD_Audio Thanks again, very appreciated IP: Logged |

Bert, Just like on a PC hard drive, you will never be able to realise the entire capacity of the Card when used to store KN7000 files. Some of the space is used for 'housekeeping' purposes such as the .inf and .bak files. On Bernie's card, these files are around 54kb each so 108kb is already taken up with these files. Howard, The folders which you report as 'empty' is the correct result. These particular TFLD folders were not created on Bernie's card IP: Logged |

quote: The answer is because of cluster size, which depends on the format. The 100kB that Bill mentions is less than 2 file saves and the folder structure takes up a few clusters in comparison so the "housekeeping" is pretty insignificant in terms of space a 128MB card. If you format a 128 card as FAT in windows, it is highly probable that this file will fit, whereas it will not fit on a 128 card formatted in the 7k, this is because of the larger cluster size the 7k produces on the card for digital audio. The windows formatted card will not work for digital audio but if you only ever have technics or midi files on the card it does not matter. Typically the windows FAT format card will have around 30% extra space for technics files practically because of the smaller cluster size. If the card still does not fit on 128, if it only contains styles and songs and no picture slideshows you can save a lot of space by deleting all the "act" files which use up clusters for no benefit. The easiest way to do this is just to use windows search to find all the *.act files in the folder structure on the pc, select all and delete them. Then copy the PRIVATE folder to a 128 card and I will bet money it will fit. Of course if you selectively save styles and songs with only those parts necessary instead of total performance saves every time then much more can be squeezed on any given size card (and use the "act" trick for good measure), but since 1G cards are so cheap nowadays it's hardly worth it anymore IP: Logged |

You all are most welcome. I am glad I found a way to share them, and for Bill Norrie and Bob Hendershot, who helped facilitate downloads to SD. I wish I knew who created these styles, because, he or she deserves the credit. A good friend and fellow player, Jim Helwig, got this card with his backup KN7000, and copied it for me. Music is never as good as that which is shared. Bernie IP: Logged |

Hi Bernie and Bill. Thanks for the styles, I seem to be stuck on the jazz ones for a while!! One small problem.....Some of the early ballad and showtime files take as long as a floppy to download, the rest only take a few seconds. Is it a problem with my saving to SD card, or are you all having the same delay??? Ray ------------------ IP: Logged |
|
Bernie9 Member |
There is no delay for me. IP: Logged |
|
Bob Hendershot Member |
I could find no styles that took extra time. Baring any technical PC problem, the only thing I can think of that would cause a delay is the possibility that there are .ast (all custom) files still on the SD from a previous save. It is important that you first delete any existing KN7000 folder before you copy Bernie's KN7000 folder to the Technics folder of the SD. Ray, you could look at the right side of the KN7000 load display before you load with the KN7000 to check for All Custom Files. If any are there, load the file and re-save without that option selected. IP: Logged |

Thanks guys, I will get my friend to check that out.He has to do it again for my Bro. Folders, Soul and Blues, and 11 to 14 all take 35 seconds to load. The rest are sweet Ray ------------------ IP: Logged |

Bernie, Thanks for the great styles!!! I'm going to stay busy for awhile playing with those. Bill, thanks for the tips on copying them to an SD Card without too much trouble. Alec, Thanks for the help on getting them to a 128 SD card. I don't have Audio files, so guess i don't need any of my 128 card formatted on the KN7000. Nice to get some extra free space on the card. I am exploring all different styles and they sound great. I still have the question about the files in folders 93 up to 98 that should contain custom performance pads . Most of them have the same performance pads in User Banks, named KN3000 phrase. Am I missing something? IP: Logged |

What a disappointment! I can see all the files on my PC as having loaded to the SD Card and despite having followed Bill's instructions 'to the letter' when I load the SD Card to my KN7, there is nothing on it. The first time I unzipped to the TFL folders, it wouldn't load so I painstakingly opened each folder and copied the contents one group at a time (took nearly two hours)but still no luck and yes! I formatted the disk in the KN7 and did a 'test save' as I normally do. The only thing I can think of is I usually use Sandisk cards, but this time I used a 2GB Kingston, Would it make a difference Bill? Audrey IP: Logged |

Bill Norrie Member |
Hi Audrey, Using 2GB cards for just KN files is a bit of a waste really since the KN7000 will not 'see' all the capacity anyway! I do realise that the smaller capacity SD Cards are becoming harder to find, but I have had problems with 2GB cards in the past. When it became obvious that 256MB and 512MB cards were becoming scarce, I bought a couple of dozen of them!! If you followed the procedure, I can't understand why you have a problem - as you can see, several others have managed to get the styles on to SD Cards. Are you absolutely sure that you have the correct directory structure on the card? Put the card in your USB Reader/Writer, connect to your PC and access 'My Computer'. You should see amongst the list of disc drives a 'Removable Drive' which will be the SD Card in the Reader/Writer. All I can suggest is that you try again maybe using a different SD Card. If you don't have another card, could you back-up the contents of one of your known working cards to your PC, then follow the procedure again, to transfer the files to that card. If you still have problems, post back and I'll make the content of my card available to you. IP: Logged |

Hi, Bill,I download to a Kingston sd card 2gig and no problem. I am working with these folders for one week and I have fun with them. You have to check the memory A,B and C to check the Verse with solo there are great. IP: Logged |

Hi Bill, Thank you for your quick response. I saw everything you mentioned and I have to say this is the first time, I've had problems with an SD Card loading properly. Quite rightly, you point out that so many other members have downloaded and are using the styles successfully, that I'm beginning to think it's my PC playing up again. I have cleared and re-formatted a Sandisk card as instructed and will have another go later on in the evening. By the way, the reason I use the higher MB cards is because my camera uses them as well and this way, I can mix and match. As you say it's a little cheaper to buy 'bulk' Will keep you posted. Happy Australia Day, to those who care. Now, further to the delay on loading certain folders......My computer friend copied from my SD card to another SD card on his computer. I have just tried the new SD card and there is no delay on any folders. Should I expect that my SD card is faulty, and use a new SD card???, or can I transfer the problem folders to any empty folders which are available at the moment on my non-conplying SD card. Please keep your replies simple, and treat me nice, as it is not my best subject. Ray ------------------ IP: Logged |

Ray, don’t try to copy folders from one card to another or from folder to folder in the same card, with your computer. That will not properly update the KN7000mn.inf file and the files will not be seen by the KN7000. I would first try to format your old card at your KN7000. Then save whatever is in the KN7000 to the SD card. Yellow SD button – Save – Technics Format - Save. It doesn’t matter what you save, you are just creating a file structure on the SD card. Then have your friend delete the KN7000 folder from the old card that you just formatted. Next have him copy the KN7000 folder of the new card that he made work, to the TECHNICS folder of the old card you just formatted in the KN7000. If that doesn’t make the old card work, I would probably throw it away. The above paragraph is actually the same procedure that Bill outlined above in different words. In this case you are copying the KN7000 folder from the new SD card that your friend made, rather than the original KN7000 folder from Bernie's zip file. Thanks for the feed-back Bob,but as it is 42deg. here today, "The Gardener" advised me not to play golf, and she knows all. Before reading your reply, I decided to fill the time by trying to transfer the data on faulty folders to spare folders. The operation was successful, and there is now no delay from these new folders. The exercise took over two hours, to do two folders. As I had the opportunity to listen to each file in the process, it was also a chance to mark the styles that would be suitable for me. I have not encountered any of the problems that you mention, maybe I was a bit lucky for a change?? At one sdtage I used the Copy procedure under SD Tools, but it seemed to take a lot longer than loading and saving the files. Not my favourite sport but I am learning. My main problem is, by the time I have mastered a task, technology moves on and leaves me floundering in deep water.....C'est la vie!!! Ray ------------------ IP: Logged |

Since a few people seem to be having problems transferring Bernie's styles to SD Card, perhaps a different method may make it easier ![]() Go here : http://www.4shared.com/file/205388070/943a2076/KN7000.html and download the file. Then use either Song Manager or Fred's KN SD_Explorer program to 'Restore' the file to a blank SD Card, using a USB Reader Writer. The file is a direct copy of my SD Card and is in SDB format, suitable for the direct restore operation. IP: Logged |
