Just wondered if anyone has the music (top line and chords) for the song titled "You belong to me" I think it was a big hit for Patsy Cline, the lyrics start:

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember darlin' all the while
You belong to me

See the market place in Old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

Kind regards to all on the forum, many thanks for any help with the above.

Peter

Hi Peter,
First the good news,I've got the song.
Now the bad news, it's in an album so old and travelled that its falling apart, and bits are missing, but if no one else finds it in the next couple of days I think, beween
Mel and myself we can work out how the middle bit went and send it to you.
By the way I think the hit was Jo Stafford, not Patsy Cline
Regards
Eddie

Hi Walter
Not a bad guess It was in the charts from 14th Nov 1952 for 19 weeks. It mde it to No.1 for the week commencing 16th Jan 1953 for 1 week and was the first British Hit Single by a female.
Cost around 14cents
The lyrics for the 'middle bit' are:

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too and blue

and the other verse is:-

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

John

Hi There Peter - I hope someone has sent you this music - I was certain that I had it and posted this morning that I would send it to you later today. On looking through my wonderful listings of songs etc., I realised that I hadn't got it!!! Within 10mins of my original posting I quickly came back into this topic and deleted my post to you. It looks as if I wasn't quick enough!!!

SO- if you do get a copy of it then I would love to receive one also!!! Joan

Hi Walter,

You say the song "You Belong To Me" was played on a troop ship as you were going through the Suez Canal in 1953. How interesting. I played that song many, many times in 1953 while undergoing training in Georgia prior to boarding a troop ship at the Brooklyn Army Terminal and heading for England. They are indeed happy memories.

Thank you for the music score - I have Rod Stewarts modern recording of this song and he makes a very good job of singing it in his relaxed style. Jo Staffords' recording of this song sounds as good today as it did in 1952 when I used to listen to it on Radio Luxembourg. It seems like only yesterday! Its a pity my body has not lasted as well as my memory!!!

There have been some beautiful melodies over the years expressing beautiful sentiments, and hearing them played again immediately and clearly bring back to us certain memories of times gone by and important events that have happened to us in the past.

Lovely music - lovely memories - Joan

Hi Chuck, I remember it too well, I was seasick for 19 days. Originally posted to the Middle East, by air, was given all the necessary jabs, then 3 days later was changed to Far East, by sea. Given all the necessary jabs. From memory, 8/10 in total. I think the effects are beginning to wear off!! Happy Days. Walter.

Ah, yes, Walter! You have triggered another memory - shots as we referred to them, or jabs or injections as you refer to them. I still have my old shot record laying around in storage somewhere. Tetanus, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Flu, and the list goes on. I retired from the Air Force 28 years ago. Hopefully the effects have worn off! On the other hand maybe some residual serum is still circulating in this old body and offering its intended protection. Who knows?

We were on board ship for 14 days (didn't get seasick thank goodness), disembarked at Bremerhaven, Germany for a couple of days, then boarded ship again and sailed to Southampton. We disembarked and boarded a bus to RAF Station Burtonwood near Warrington where I spent the next four years of my life. Wonderful memories, Walter. It is always a pleasure to recall them.

Best Wishes to You,

Chuck
