Does anyone know if the Ketron SD40 can merge at least two incoming midi channels to spell out chords? I know that the BK7m and some Korg arranger keyboards (if not all) can do it.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi John, Not sure what you mean! BUT, Standard setup for midi accordion is,

Right voice = Channel 1
Cords = Channel 2
Bass = Channel 3

I no longer have my SD40, but when I did I used this method. From my Roland FR-8X I always set the Bass and Chords on the same channel. Channel 2 Works fine!

In this way I am able to make extended chords such as Maj7, m7-5,
m7, 7-9, ETC

I'm using this same setup with my Yamaha Genos. Works great!

Don ... I found your post very interesting ... Would you tell me how you configure those extended chords on the left hand side of the accordion? Thank you.

Yes it can an does.... chords and bass.

There is a feature "BASS TO CHORD". When this is turned on, the bass channel and chord channels are used to 'read' the arranger chords.

Thanks,

Don & AJ, thanks for confirming. With some arranger modules, it is not possible unless you process the midi and merge two channels for more than simple triads.

Chris.

Hi Don, As you know some older models like the XD3 by Ketron, used only channel for chord detection. For instance, ch2 on the accordion. With only one channel, the XD couldn't do more than triads. By the way, I sent you a PM.

Thanks,
Chris

Torch ... Thank you so much for that link ... I found it very interesting ... When I was playing accordion, I was with a 5 piece band, and never really had to get that deep into left hand chords ... Perhaps one day when I dig the accordion out from the storage space under the stairs I will explore those chord structures ...
Thanks again,
