Who has an ION - 03/08/04 09:41 AM

Hi, new member here.

I was curious if anyone has an ION and could give me some input. I've heard from some people that it's "like an $800 Minimoog." Probably not, but I've heard some mp3 demos that sound great. But also--I heard the software is buggy--jumping parameters and problems with pots.

Any help/input appreciated. Thx.

I have been looking at the Ion, it's a very cool little instrument, very solidly built. The biggest problem seems to be the tendancy for some Ions to spontaneously go into edit mode. Apparently some have rotary encoders that are very, very sensative. Software upgrade 1.05 (released in Feb. 04) was supposed to reduce the problem, but some owners have had to send their Ion's back to Alesis. The Ion User Group on Yahoo has had a lot of discussion of the problem, useful and otherwise. It still sounds like a great machine to me.

Thanks....I've heard about those problems as well, but still, I've seen IONS for less than $700 so I might get one anyway.

According to Alesis, units built since January 2004 have had the hardware problems corrected.

I appreciate the input. By the way, this forum sure seems a bit quiet. Not as many posts as I'd expected.
