Soundfont Librarian/Editors - 07/27/06 07:43 PM

Hi,
there seems to be a bit of interest shown, in using soundfonts.
This site may be of interest to some members.

Members with creative soundcards ( Audigy, SBlive etc) could use
Vienna Soundfont Editor.(free) http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php?page=software

Members using software options like Live Synth Pro, Forte etc could try
Viena Soundfont Editor (free) http://www.synthfont.com/

Soundfaction Alive Soundfont Editor(not free) http://www.soundfaction.com/alive/index.htm

or if you just want a Librarian so you can mix n match your soundfont banks
Try Soundfont Librarian ( free) http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php?page=software

Personally I've used
Soundfaction Alive
( Creative ) Vienna Soundfont Editor

and I've just downloaded the Librarian.

best wishes
Rikki

Just to add something about soundfonts for those interested.
You can convert the file format with Awave to any other format.

Great, Rikki.

Fred, do you mean a wave file, or is Awave a program ?

Bernie, Awave is a good conversion program as is CDXtract. In addition, many of the samplers will also convert from other formats to its native format.

Hi Bernie,
Awave is a program.
I have one called Extreme Sample convertor, some conversions seemed to work ok others were less than useable.

There's a number of these types of programs available. Maybe some work better than others, or I just didn't set something correctly.

Anyway here's a link to a freebie http://www.chickensys.com/products/sw_iteminfo.php?sw_name=Translator+Free
I've downloded it, but haven't used it as yet.
Wish I'd spotted it before going to the expense of purchasing Extreme, as it may have been good enough for my purposes also.

I think a lot of the programs also have demo's to try before you buy.

best wishes
Rikki

Hello Bernie,
Just saw the reactions.
As stated by Frank and Rikki,Awave is software.
Here's the link where you can download a demo.

Then another add on:
In case you are not satisfied with digital conversions but you do have a player for any sound type file format which you would like to convert, you can allways play and record at the same time and save as *.wav file with a software utility called: total recorder
This software records any sound which goes thru your pc. (also realtime net files )
and even corrects automaticly dropouts.
(In the late nineties when there was no conversion software for wmf files, I used it to get a wav file for conversion to mp3)
It is somewhere mentionned by me on synthzone, but that is a long time ago.
So I think it is worthwhile mentionning this utility again for those who don't know it.

I have looked at all the tasty offerings, and see the conversion capabilities. I then try to see how that will benefit me. Maybe I don't see the forest for the trees.

I have a KN7000 arranger which has no part in this equation, as far as I can tell. I have a PC that I would like to get the best midi playback- maybe some use there. I had an Audigy sound module, but it died. The SGM180 in Sythnfont is decent for midi playback.

I have a Muse receptor with great samples and programs, that is my main focus to replace the Technics someday. These are mostly large lead samples, and except for Kontakt2, won't help me with styles, ot midi playback. I just bought an Axiom 61 controller that I am trying to program.

Sorry for the rambling, but I am awash in software tools, and know that there must be a good use for a conversion program, but I have nothing to convert. I have a 20 GB Tascam hard disk recorder that I can record wav, but haven't done it yet except recording my music.

I am a bit muddled at the moment, but take one step at a time. I am learning a lot though, thanks in part to you good people.
