Miditzer Theater Organ - 07/31/06 02:25 AM

Some of us older people might enjoy this virtual interactive GUI of the Mighty Wuritzer. http://www.virtualorgan.com/Default.asp?Page=72

Follow the link, then go to getting started to download free. It immediately plays with computer mouse, but the real fun starts when you connect midi keyboards to it.

I have channel one(solo),attached now with a little Oxygen8 controller. I will put another on ch2(accompiniment), and ch3(bass pedals).

It is all rather amazing,

The program has been out for quite some time, (With small improvements added) and used to be demonstrated at the UK keyboard festivals, although it seems to have dropped out of favour these days.
Its 2 main problems are that it is a stand alone program, (Not a VST) and therefore is difficult to integrate with other programs and controllers, and secondly it uses soundfonts, which being old technology means that all the other modern theatre organ samples on the market leave it for dead.
If it was converted to a VST and could import other samples I am sure it would do well, but for the present I am afraid it’s Nice Try but Could Do Better.

Bill: Is there something else out there that is free that you like better?

Nothing free unfortunately, but you may want to see what can be achieved if done professionally.

The following is not software or free, (Sample discs are available for Korg and Ketron) but if you already have a Fantom you may be interested.

Hope this Helps.

Re: Miditzer Theater Organ - 08/01/06 06:00 AM

My 2 Cents worth.

I have Miditzer hooked up to a spare computer and a Technics FA-1 organ. It is old technology for sure but the way they have produced the Theatre organ fonts is pretty impressive. Is it perfect, the answer is no. Does it sound reasonably authentic yes. The FA-1 has 4 organs sampled in it and to be honest the Miditzer sounds better then the sampled FA 1 Theatre organ in many instances. The real gem is the mixing of the miditzer and the FA1 produces some great TO sounds. The new install program from Miditzer was without hassle and worked fine with very little tweaking. If you've got a spare computer have a little fun and try it out.

The crumhorn-milandigitalaudio combo looks very promising. I called milandigitalaudio and spoke to to some one there. A relativly powerful pentium is highly recomended with gobs of memory. The other issue for me a least was that the samples were all taken without Trems. The program itself produces the Trems so I wonder how close they can get. In the meantime I'm having fun and only have one issue to resolve which is the the expression pedal from the FA-1 to Miditzer.

Hi Jerry
I have three keyboards hooked up(ch 1,2,3).
I had no problems with one, but now #3 is giving me stuck notes, and the tabs won't stay on very long. Also, it won't load a combo from a saved .

I put it on the forum: http://virtualorgan.com/forum/active_topics.asp

I am sure it is my setup. Otherwise, it has great promise, once I get the wrinkles out.

Bernie

I've not had as much time with it as I would like but it has been a blast.

My gut reaction would be to uninstall and reinstall Miditzer. It's such a quick proceedure. I'm assuming you have a single sound blaster card.

Jerry

I just downloaded an update(0.714) from the website that fixes this, and has other improvements.
