MIDI Throught ? What is this about ? - 03/02/03 01:41 PM

Hi all.

I have a classical piano background and I
plan to switch to Electronic Music, using :
- 1 keyboard with MIDI output
- connected to my PC soundcard MIDI port
- 1 MIDI software for expanding/sequencing

But I don't known if I must buy a master keyboard or a Digital (portable) Piano ?

Digital Piano has advantage of having a piano like touch, but master keyboards
have a supplementary port : MIDI through !

So my question is : Do I need a MIDI Through port in my situation ?

I readed that midi port is for connection to an external device to send and receive
back MIDI data : is it correct ? And what is it for ?

Thanks.

No you don't need MIDI Thru to connect to your PC. You will simply connect the MIDI Out from the keyboard to the MIDI In on the PC and vice versa.

MIDI Thru is only required for daisy chaining MIDI devices together. This is if you want to send MIDI from your PC to a MIDI device ( such as a keyboard or module And then out again to a second device ( module or keyboard ) and so on. But as this is not what you are wanting to do don't worry about it.
