PA300 adaptor over heating

Does anyone know how to keep the adaptor from overheating. I tried to strap it to my keyboard stand and it worked for a little while. Soon,though,it started to flash on and off and resetting itself. It felt hot when I touched it in spite of me keeping it off the floor. Thanks
