BK-9

I've heard the BK-9 doesn't have a speaker system on board. If this is true, I would be able to manage at home, but what about 'gigging' - any ideas!

Yes... would two CM-10 cube amps be the LIGHTEST combo that would give comparable output to the Korg Pa800, for example? (By comparison the Korg Pa800's internal speaker system is rated at 22 Watts per channel.) Also would the CM-10's sound muddy on the floor? Do they need to be on stands? Inquiring minds want to know! -Ted

Here's another thought - I am wondering whether a boom/sound box could be used? (similar to that used by the Korg PA3X.

If you are "gigging" you should invest in a good speaker/PA system otherwise you may miss the good sound coming from the BK-9.
I would suggest to try, if you can, a light but clean sounding by-amped system. For example start with a Bose or if you like the stereo sound invest in a less expensive Nano-300 HK Lucas portable PA (about $700). You will not be disappointed.

Depends on your gigs, what you play and for how many and where. Don't waste your time with cheap gear. The BK9 sounds amazing and shouldn't be short changed by a substandard sound system. Thats why I think they left out on board speakers which would never do the keyboard justice.

Here's a solution for most arranger gigs.

Yamaha Stagepass 400i or 600i. Simple to use, easy and light to move, high quality stereo and not overpriced. And yes I would reccommend some light speaker stands to go along with it. You need to get the sound over your audience's heads so as not to sound muddy.

I bought the NANO on clearance at GC for $299. I'm still at home working on my act, but setting up everything as I hear it from the PA. So far, I like the sounds very much and it sure is portable.

Just stumbled across this post. You may wish to consider a BOSE L1 Compact. Portable, (however not stereo) great coverage subject to your budget and size of audience.

I swear by my Bose L1 Compact -best $900 you can spend. I also have a Roland BA-330 that plays in stereo and is very good sounding in a non-Bose way (more of a classic amp sound). I have heard and would also recommend the HK Nano 300. Over in the General Arranger forum there are a few posts about the smaller Bose units, mostly good reviews for very small venues.
