Roland Expression Pedal Question - 06/23/07 09:49 AM

I have both a Yamaha Expression pedal and a technics Expression pedal. Can either be used with this new E 80 or do I have to buy yet another expression Pedal?
I don't want to plug in one of the two I have and blow up a circuit board
Thanks for your reply

Try them,,you won't hurt anything..I think I recall using an old Yamaha expression pedal with Roland, but the EV-5 is compact and so smooth..

Contact your local dealer, as he should be able to tell you what works with what.
Hope this helps

MY local dealer is a piano and organ retailer and doesn't even know how to turn on or demo an E 80.

The EV-5 is ok, but if you are an organ player, or plan to use the Hammond section a bunch, you might like to try the EV-7. It's a lot more expensive, but it has a similar throw to a B3 volume pedal, and can make a difference with your organ playing....

BEBOP, the yam pedal DOES NOT work w/the newer Rolands, unlike earlier models-- you need to get the ev-5. I got burned on this too, and the ev-5 is flimsy, way overpriced and not anywhere near the quality of the big yammy pedal. sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Mo

Well, than can I just change the polarity on this pedal and use it?

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/04/07 02:11 PM

INFO:
I just plugged the Yam FC7 expression pedal into the E 80 and it works great without problem.
I tried the technics expression pedal and it worked the opposite of what it should so I would have to change the polarity to make it louder when I push down on it.
but the Yam pedal works great.

Mo, I have two EV-5 pedals that I have used every day for 20 years.."Flimsy"..I think not..and it also allows for minimal volume levels too...Nothing wrong with an EV-5...I have one made in Japan, and the other from Italy..

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/04/07 03:22 PM

i'm glad it worked forya..didn't for me and george kaye called roland and they told him on the e60 the yam won't work..maybe flimsy was poor choice of words..implies falling apart which i have no right to say since i have little experience..it just seems for what the construction is, it's a lot of $ for that piece, the big heavy yam pedal feels so much more solid. so keep on keepin on..

MO,
did you go into the Menu, then the foot pedal and then the expression pedal to set it?

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/04/07 08:53 PM

don't remember in what order we did what, but i remember trying several ways, but maybe you found a way we missed.. both George and i had same problem using our yammy pedal and then when he called and they confirmed that only a roland pedal would work, i ordered the ev-5. if there's a special procedure you used, Bill, that enabled the yam to work the E80, we'd love to know that..that will give me another incentive to try E60 again. Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/05/07 07:09 PM

As I read the manual more, I discover that I can also use the technics Expression pedal that works upside down as you can have the pedal go louder by either pushing it down or lifting it up or you can also do a combination of both. This is really interesting.

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/06/07 07:07 PM

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/06/07 07:20 PM

that is really a bummer MO,

I have the fc 7 hooked up to my E 80 and it works great. I am pleased with it.
I thought I read here where one of the guys had a fc7 on his E 60 a couple of months ago when I was thinking about buying this one. I know another guy was using one on his G 70

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/07/07 08:21 PM

Bebop, jan vogul at roland had told george yam pedals wouldn't work on the E60..george will be talking to him again to determine exactly why that is so, and if he knows any way around it... btw i tried the s900 and s700 at Sam Ash today. If I do go that way I'll buy the s700 for $600 less..i don't need the harmonizer and will miss the SA voices only for a couple of the guitar sounds..won't need most of the others. But I'd like to have reasons to get back to the E60..need to find out more re the 1.08 update..it's different from the 1.06 on your E80....Mo

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/08/07 02:54 PM

Bill,
The FC7 will work in the expression jack of the E80 but will not work in the E50 or E60. I've been trying them for the past day and no luck with the E50 and E60. According to Roland, the Yamaha FC7 pedal has never worked with any of their arrangers and they were surprised to hear from me that it works with the E80.

Re: Roland Expression Pedal Question - 08/08/07 03:20 PM

HI GEORGE,
MY Roland E 80 has 4 pedal ports. FC 7, Expression, Hold, and switch.
So why wouldn't the FC 7 pedal board not work with the E 80 when it has a propietary port to plug it into. The FC 7 port is at the right end of the keyboard. the other three are next to that.
I am currently using the FC7 and a Yamaha Expression pedal plugged into the E 80. I have not yet plugged anything into the other two ports.
do you think roland is a little bit confused or a lot fonfused
