Panic Buttons for Pa4x - 02/26/23 11:15 AM

I occasionally get a stuck note while playing midi files. I read that it is Shift, start, stop, but it doesn't work.

Do you have anything upstream going into the PA4X? A tablet or computer? It might be able to send an ‘all notes off’ sysex reset from a shortcut key using a macro…

The stuck note is coming from the internal sequencer isn’t it? Not something like an external file player or the vArranger thingy..?

And, is it a random thing, or on certain MIDI files only?

I don't know what the built-in macro is to turn off stuck notes. I've personally had good experience with MIDI Solutions modules, they're quite flexible. I'm pretty sure their Footswitch Controller could be programmed to send an "all notes off" message, which would be one implementation of what Diki said above. It could be triggered with a pedal, or with a push button velcroed to the keyboard.

I messed around with Korgs the first couple of years that I got into playing arrangers. I was using the Yamaha single-finger chord system at the time. This "easy chord" system often requires the player to press notes that aren't actually part of the chord (for example, C and the B immediately below it to trigger a C7th chord, which of course doesn't contain 'B'.) Sometimes, when I was using a lower voice or the automatic RH harmony added by the arranger, a note would "stick." I eventually surmised that the arranger wasn't generating Note Off messages for the notes which weren't actually part of the chord. I never solved this problem, except to avoid the automatic RH harmony, or switch to Korg's "Fingered" chord recognition mode (which still allowed me to trigger major chords with a single note.) FWIW.

This occurs with my DM40 wind controller into ch2 of the Pa4X.

Just for future reference, in case someone looking up old threads finds this, what IS the correct combination for an all notes off? 🎹
