Gary. Bose Hearing Aids - 11/02/21 11:03 AM

Gary

Just wondered what your thoughts were on your Bose hearing aids after a bit of wear?

How does your arranger sound live…happy with the sound?

I tried a pair of $5k Phonak hearing aids….loved everything about them but my instrument voices sounded weird.

Thoughts?

Absolutely no problems at all with the keyboard sounds. The main problem with most hearing aids is the block completely block the ear canal, thereby robbing you of the natural hearing that still exists and amplifying the frequencies you were having trouble hearing. Keep in mind that if you order them from Bose, they have a very liberal return policy for a full refund. Normally, hearing aids cannot be returned, even if they do not work out for your needs.

Give them a try - I think you will be amazed.

Good luck,

Gary, since my right ear can no longer hear sounds I asked Bose if I can purchase one , instead of the pair. I was told I had to buy both.
Not good, other companies will sell you the one hearing aid.

Thx all

Got a call from the audiologist. He just got in a pair of Phonak Paradise Life hearing aids that I’m trying…cost is uhgg 🤭

We’ll see how they work. My retirement program says they’ll pay for them…😒

My wife just got a pair of Bose hearing aids and she said she now hears sounds she has not heard in more than 40 years. At one point she said she was hearing a static sound, but discovered it was my oxygen generator, which she apparently never heard prior to now. Amazing!

guitpic, that's a really heavy price tag for those hearing aids, $3,300 to $5,000 a pair, compared to the Bose for $849 a pair. I hope they have a liberal return policy. smile

Good luck,

I would have thought the Bluetooth thing should be a no brainer, otherwise you are faced with having to pull them out every time you wanted to listen to music or a streaming device, and then put them back in when done for normal use.

I would bet Bose are working on a new model…

Initial impression 👍

These sound much more natural to me than the Phonaks I tried.

When listening to my phone or other streaming media device, I don’t have to turn it up nearly as loud to get a good sound.

These things sound close to my Bose AirPods which I will have to use if I don’t want anyone else to hear.

More later.

So far, good.

I’ll give a longer report after I’ve worn them a couple of weeks

Hearing aids are only available by prescription but a proposed rule from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to make the devices available over-the-counter (OTC) for people with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Jerry,I never needed a prescription for any of my hearing aids purchased over the past 30 years.
The audiologists in my part of the world are not MDs - they are hearing technicians.

You can order the Bose hearing aids directly from Bose, which is the only place they are available. When I purchased my first hearing aids, I walked in to the hearing aid store near my home, a young girl did a hearing test, took a wax impression of my ear and ordered then from New York. They arrived three days later, she adjusted the EQ, and I paid them $1,100, and that was 3 years ago. The only thing that has changed at that store was the prices, which are sky high.

Good luck,

Re: Gary. Bose Hearing Aids - 11/19/21 02:16 AM

Hello All

I have decided to keep the Bose hearing aids.

These really aren’t hearing aids in the traditional sense. They don’t target specific frequency loss but rather work as in ear amplifiers…and that is what works for me.

I couldn’t recommend these to anyone else who had much more than a mild hearing loss.

The Phonak Paradise hearing aids that I tried out were tuned for my specific frequency loss but that meant retraining my brain to hear and recognize sounds I hadn’t heard for decades. I’m not up to that.

Good discussion.
