I was in a traveling band in my early 20s. Our drummer quit and our agent sent us a new drummer from Berkeley College - Jimmy Marshall (our sax and guitar player were from the same school and friends). He was incredible. Lasted 6 months and went with the Charlie Daniels Band. I see him on album covers. He went on to be a successful financial advisor in Northern CA. Closest I ever came to fame. RIP Charlie Daniels

Zuki,
That's a great story! I just finished reading "Never Look at Empty Seats" by Charlie Daniels it was a very interesting read he was quite a guy. Seems like drummers who worked with him turned over frequently. RIP Charlie!

Hi Steve, didn't know how long Jimmy lasted (didn't communicate after he left). Have read that Charlie treated his band like family and was a super guy.

In the early 70's Charlie's bass player, Earl Grigsby, who was from Lexington, had a medical issue, which sidelined him for about 8 months. I drove to Nashville a bunch to sub for him.
Last time I saw Charlie was at a NAMM about 10 years ago. He was at his museum downtown. Didn't remember me!
OH WELL,
Great guy.He injured his left hand in a motorized post hole digger accident years ago, and really had to work to overcome that.
Neat guy. Neat life.
