I bought an arranger!!

I bought an arranger!! - 01/30/20 03:45 PM

It's Korg PA4X. As most know it belonged to my friend DickieT, but I've using it for nearly two years. It seemed like the thing to do was buy it. Now he can pay for his SX900.
I've tried for months to find something that I feel is as good for my use as the 4X, but haven't been able to do so. SOOO, it will remain my number one tool. I will take extra drugs to help my right hand problems. smile
For now, the EA7 will remain my backup/second team arranger.

Congratulations.... šŸŽ‰
That was a good move Don with the pa4x you finally did it after all this time using it!
I hope your hands and fingers hold up so you could really enjoy it and having the Ea7 as a backup is a super move.... I just hope the pa5x doesn't come out next week
just saying... coffee

Nice to hear the 4X is working for you. Not to fuel the flame, but what didn't Dickie like, or better yet, what does he like more in the 900? Just curious - he's an awful good musician too.

Re: I bought an arranger!! - 01/30/20 04:46 PM

Dickie has played only Yamahas for many, many years. He couldn't come to grips with the Korg OS. He kept getting it ready to take on jobs, but never did. The only reason he wanted to change from the PSR S950 was because the PA4X, and now the SX900, play karaoke files! Having that capability cuts down on the gear in his setup.
He IS a good musician. He plays bass and mandolin and sings, but he is not a great arranger player. I'm giving him lessons so not much chance of his ever becoming one. smile
He is a great entertainer. He uses single finger chords, midi files, karaoke, ventriloquist, excellent stage manner and banter. He plays almost no lead with right hand, but hires some excellent side men when necessary.
He works as much as he wants to work, doing several nursing homes each week. He is curtailing the band jobs, and only accepting ones he can do as a single, or ones that REALLY pay a lot and make hiring sidemen viable.
Dickie has had multiple health problems, diabetes, blood clot, etc., much caused by being overweight. He now goes to the gym every morning and has lost about a hundred pounds over the last few years.
He goes crappie fishing and plays golf several days a week. He goes to Bluegrass/Country "jam sessions" a couple of days a week. He's older than I am and getting around better than I am.
He owned an insurance agency for many years and sold it a few years ago and now supplements his retirement with the money he makes entertaining.
I hope he doesn't mind my telling some of his life story. He's been a good friend for more than 30 years.

It just occurred to me that you may be referring to a different person, maybe Diki, who is on the Roland forum now. ?? That Diki is still on Roland BK9.

Don, if I took a pole hear on SZ about you going back to the Pa4x, Iā€™m betting most were just for you to buy another one.

You were the main reason I bought my Pa4x --- your love for the Pa4x was catching.

Keep on playing. John C.

I've been leaning big time to getting the EA7 yo go with my 3000. I really would like the Pa4x but no way I can afford it now. Sooo... anyone selling a EA7 reasonable let me know.

Of course! That's why I got it. My plan is to put the SX on top of my SV1 in the studio, and keep the EA7 for the winery, or any keyboard based jobs that pop up. It serves a purpose, it's small, lightweight, sounds good, and so far, it hasn't hurt my wallet. smile It's not as scary as it was the first time around ... and we have Mr. Roland (Fran) on retainer for the deep questions, after all.
It'd never be my first choice of a keyboard to play on stage, but it's a darn good part timer.

It has some great features. Lots of controls and assignable buttons...
Tip: Most of the onboard styles have been changed to where Intro One makes a good break/fill.

I have been confused by the 2 Dickies myself. Dickie T plays Yamaha and the other Dicki plays Roland-got it now.

Haha, me too.

Don , I thought you were referring to Roland Dicki also, though must admit did sound strange he ā€˜d swap to Korg, then to Yamaha.

Congratulations on your PA 4x.

Re: I bought an arranger!! - 01/31/20 04:23 PM

IT is a matter of taste , after using korg keys for 12 yeares , i can not hear anymore korg keys

for me sx900 and especialy GENOS sounds much better ,so for those who do not understand why a person prefer it on pax , i can say the contrary - how a person can prefer pax on genos ?

Re: I bought an arranger!! - 02/01/20 06:12 PM

Yes...I purchased what I can afford at this time...If I can't make Music with this, I don't deserve a Genos!...May use with My stage Piano at times. I think I can be creative and work with what they offer...Time will tell...Will miss the live sliders the most....I'm no PRO and never will be...I'll do the best I can...It's Me and not the Keyboard as always!

Congratulations Harold.

I really enjoy having my p121 connected to my sx900. Love the feel of piano keys when playing a piano sound for melody.

Personally for me I am glad the Tyros2 doesn't have sliders
was never a fan of them on my arrangers
but I am a fan of "Buttons & Knobs & tilt display"
vs a touch screen for navigational control....
I never liked the way sliders work when you have to always
first move them "up or down to activate" them instead of just sliding up or down from initial position.
