Made up my mind: Genos for sale - 12/08/1902:35 PM
I gave it a real chance, and am overall very pleased with it. Just not quite pleased enough to prefer it to Korg PA4X FOR MY NEEDS at this time. I didn't think the space on the bandstand would be a problem, but it turns out it is. I took two weeks getting acquainted with it and setting it all up, then used it two weekends on the job. Sounds great, plays great, and I'm glad I bought it and tried it. But it's available. Also the transmission is going out of my Expedition so I can use the money for that. Send me a private message if you are interested.

Don...I must admit I'm a little disappointed the Genos didn't work out. I thought the "Double Dons" playing a Genos gig together would be quite a show Mitch

Hi Don, a little surprised but I suppose as you say it's what fits ones needs the best.
I've never seen a Pa4x before but it must be one hell of a instrument. Actually, no I did see it briefly in the summer someone played it on stage after my dad's act (which I assisted) but I used my trusty Pa900 when I still had it.
But didn't Jeremy suggest in the coming months that there will be two new Korgs available, not part of the Pa series but something very different. Very interesting times!

If I'm still around, I would sure look at a new Korg, but even if they announced it in January, it would be several months before it would be available, and a few more to get the bugs out. At least I never put the Genos logo by my name!

Yes, quite intriguing. Maybe he’s not talking arrangers.

I will use either the Roland or the PA4X. This week I'll be using both, as I have to be set up in two rooms the same day. I didn't get along with the PA1000 very well. I had the PA900 for quite a while and liked it a lot. I can still use the keys on the 4X, but by the end of the night my wrists hurt. I'll take pills for now.

Hi Don, Is a controller keyboard totally out of the question? You enjoy the Pa4x so much, surely there must be some way around it.
Re: Made up my mind: Genos for sale - 12/08/1908:11 PM
I have used controller keyboard with modules several times, Ketron Midjay, Roland BK7m, Ketron SD40, and always find there is too much stuff to deal with--extra cables, power supplies, screens, etc. I would really like to keep everything in one package, one keyboard. I like my setup and adding another keyboard to the Korg would complicate that. But to answer your question, yes I have thought of it. I can use the PA4X o.k. still; but not sure how much longer. We'll see how the fingers and wrists hold up. There are no bad choices, just some that fit better.

Don, Have you ever tried tucking a reeeeeealy narrow controller under the PA4x? It'd hardly be noticeable, both sets of keys would be really close - there's no extra audio wires, or pedals needed - just a single midi cable. Sustain, breaks etc - all controlled by the 4x. The Korg might even power the controller via usb. As much as you use your left hand for bends, and such - this would give you the same basic hand position. You'd also have a full keyboard to play intros and endings on, or just to noodle 'round before you pick a song. You wouldn't even have to write, or edit a single Performance (registration). It's food for thought.

Looks like my logo disappeared also..
😮😱 Donny, do the new logo mean that you're going or has gone back to the 'Baby Genos' to test it a bit further while waiting for the coming Korg models?

This song is not about arrangers, but somehow the title come into my mind.... A very delightful version if I may say so, and Billy Preston make the organ sound heavenly.
Re: Made up my mind: Genos for sale - 12/09/1905:51 AM
I wouldn't say its "silly". An instrument is a very personal thing and you really have to try it on like a fine suit to see if its comfortable, fits correctly, you look good, and will wear over time. I can't explain it, there are lots of variables that go into it. I'm sure some guitarists can add some insight as most of the guitarists I know have at least a dozen guitars. Some for a specific song! Keyboards are almost the same. I have a Band Keyboard, a MP3/Backing Track Keyboard, and I'm now looking for another keyboard for Style backing in the Genos. Maybe the Genos can replace my NORD, but I won't know until I use it on a gig or two and go through all the setups like Don did.

Me too! Here's a shot of how close my 4X sits to the controller (SV-1) keys. I'm not suggesting you get a weighted controller - just use as a location reference. With a thinner controller ( like most are) you'd even be 3-4 inches closer to the top keybed.

My setup has a custom shelf on the top tier. It holds my laptop, power supplies, recorder and often a tiny mixer. I want to keep that. Don't want things too high so my adoring fans can see me. I did use two keyboards for many years. I will experiment with a small controller, but probably after the Christmas season. Too busy to do much right now except play.

That's the OTHER Donny, DNJ.
Donny has an evil twin who returns all the keyboards? That would explain a lot. Seriously, about five minutes ago he was mad because everybody was calling the SX900 the "Baby Genos" and advising them how much better the Genos sounded. Also, when he had the SX900, he stated that it was not a "professional" keyboard. Did the first payment on the Genos come in or what? Another thing I have wondered in all seriousness-isn't there a limit to what you can send back at Sweetwater in good conscience?

First of all sorry but it's none of your business what I buy, what I send back or how I buy it to be clear.... Secondly you got people here here that don't even believe that I know how to play. Them I just ignore. That said nobody has to take to heart my opinions everyone can make-up their own minds.. I do what I have to do for me end of story.
