So ... who's pulled the trigger? - 08/01/19 12:22 PM

I'm putting an SX-900 in my studio for variety, and contrast. Doubt that I'll use it on stage, but who knows?
My guy says no shipments till Oct 1, but I'm in no rush.
Who else has placed a pre-order?

(yup - the PA700 had to go back before my trial was up)

I'll keep my Tyros5 and wait for any new styles to be converted for the T5. That will be my upgrade.

I don't like the No Tilt touch screen.

The question is for how long?

Not that there is anything wrong with it.
You have allways been returning to Yamaha.
Why would it be different this time?

I've heard some of your posted music and I must say your playing is kind of sloppy lots of blues scale leads, your voice sounds like you slur your words. If your going to constantly brag about yourself then people have a right to be honest about your music.

Welcome to the forum. I'm interested to know which of us you are referring to, as the comment doesn't seem to fit this thread. And I look forward to seeing some of your music posted.

Actually I welcome constructive criticism, but there are better ways to express oneself that may actually be useful. Our new member could well be talking about me, and that's o.k. But I don't recall ever bragging, as I have nothing to brag about except for marrying well. smile

By any chance are you Rasheed from about 20 years ago who proclaimed that the Yamaha DJX keyboard was the best instrument ever invented? If so, at least you’ve learnt how to spell 👍

Slurring ones words takes much practice and is considered a highly desirable musical effect.

Couldn’t resist, I’ve just placed my order too. I think I’ve seen enough to suggest it will be fantastic.

Re: So ... who's pulled the trigger? - 08/10/19 10:22 AM

So long as you remember that it will NOT improve your playing or performance in any way, (Only practice and experience can do that) I am sure you will enjoy it, but it is much cheaper to practice and get to fully know what you already have.

Re: So ... who's pulled the trigger? - 08/10/19 10:56 AM

If my steady gig continues, I hope to get one by the end of the year. The chord looper, reset button, and more storage space for expansion packs are all features that I’ll put to good use.

But of course Bill is correct, the latest model will not make you sound any better, but in my case it should allow me to do things that I can’t do on my 950. I think it should be a very nice and worthwhile upgrade.

Unlike popular believe, I think it can. Of course to a certain point.
Of course, there are those players that can make a Casio sound great ...
Well, I am not one of those, and I think there are a few others here on the forum.
The Genos inspires me to try different things and actually play a little better. The instruments are so realistic and the styles are so dynamic that it makes me play a little different.
So, I do think the Instrument can make you sound better and inspire you to play a little better.
Since I am not the greatest player I need all the help I can get.
And that is Exactly what arranger KB are made for ... smile

Re: So ... who's pulled the trigger? - 08/11/19 03:41 AM

Every time a new keyboard came into my home, I was challenged with another learn curve, and I was filled with excitement and dedication, which helped me move to another level. I understand Eric’s post.

Bill, a new keyboard may not make you play better, but it can makes you want to play better.

I too have placed a preorder for the PSR-SX900. It seems like such a logical choice for someone that wants to get involved with the Genos platform but at a much more affordable price point. Not unlike the difference between the Yamaha Montage and MODX. Yamaha seems to be covering all the bases when it comes to getting young and older generation musicians involved with playing and enjoying the musical creative process.

Fascinating times for musicians of all ages.

I use my Tyros3 as backup. I may sell my T3 and use the SX900 at home for practicing and backup.

The other issue that I have is there are only 2 foot pedal ports. On the Tyros I use 3- Volume, breaks /fills, vocal harmony. I don't want to get into a larger foot pedal controller, to add the extra port.

Not at all true!!! It will improve it in EVERY way. I listened to the ensemble section of the latest Kris Nicholson Goes Full Throttle On The Yamaha Genos Compare With PSR-SX Series video converted to MP3 - Just this section alone will GREATLY enhance ANY performance! There is no way I could EVER play that myself, not even if I was a good player which I am not.

Also, better styles with better effects makes ANY performance sound much, much better. I GUARRANTEE that I will sound much better on a Genos than on my S770. Even Peter Baartman will sound much better from an older to an newer unit.

We are playing fully automated arrangers, not pianos with mere styles as ad-ons! Arrangers are not 90% about what you can achieve with your right hand (although it helps) as so many falsely believe - if you are just a little creative and you have a singer you can sound awesome without even so much as touching the right hand section.

Many arranger players can play a piano in a lobby with great results - I would not even casually attempt such as feat as I cannot at all play the piano. But I can make an arranger talk - it is a completely different breed of instrument and not merely for skilled piano players only.

I guess some still think and reason along this train of thought...
Posted by: Riceroni9

Re: So ... who's pulled the trigger? - 08/11/19 10:15 AM

Wish I had the financial resources to acquire a Genos and the new PSR-SX whatever-ya-call-it... but I don't. It's great to learn new Arranger Capabilities and avenues for being creative (no matter which brand of Arranger) because eventually, a newer gizmo will arrive and older models will become affordable.

So... sitting on the fence and still learning all the capabilities of the PSR-S970 ain't all bad!

Wishing each of you a great weekend... at least what's left of it!
