How old is your heart? :)

How old is your heart? :) - 06/12/19 09:59 PM

Since my heart problems, I have thought about that organ a few times. I came across this song I started writing a while back.
I will dedicate it to my friend Riceroni (Dave).
Does it make sense? Is the hook any good? Do we really care? smile

I'm "touched"... Don:

I don't believe I've ever had a song dedicated to me, (President of the National Geezer Society) and I'm speechless!

Enjoyed your song including the very original title. What I would give to have a vocal quality like yours. Thanks for such a fantastic gift, my friend. I hope the sun is beginning to shine again in Northwest Louisiana. Get ready for another "scorcher" of a Summer.

All the best, ----Dave

Great song, Don. I just woke up in a drenching sweat, though the temperature in the house is only 65, my oxygen level was just 88 on supplemental oxygen and my pulse was 120 - kinda scary!

Don, Great job as usual! I can’t believe what a nice blended professional sound you get running everything through your keyboard. Amazing clap

Re: How old is your heart? :) - 06/13/19 08:28 AM

On my last visit to my cardiologist, my heart beat was 85 per minute
1-Multiplied it by 60 (minutes per hour), got, 5,100 times

2-Then Multiplied it by 24, the number of hours in a day got, 122,400 times

3-Then Multiplied it by 365, the number of days in a year, got 44,760,000 times

4-Then Multiplied it by 88, my age, got 3,938,880,000 beats times in my life time.
Now, that is fantastic. It’s hard to believe. It has been ticking for 88 years.

Now all we are asking for is a keyboard that will do the job for the next five to six years. That does not sound unreasonable.

Sometimes I think I am losing it, but I am thinking deep today and this is what came with. (smile) (got nothin’ to do today)
Hate being serious all the time.

John C.
PS, Don, great song AGAIN, when ya got it ya got it!

Yes, we have been several days without rain, but still have a lot of high water in lakes and streams. By August we'll be wishing for more rain.
I wrote a song especially for you once. Something like "Raising Rice in Texarkana." I'll have to see if I still have it somewhere.
Come see me my friend!

Thanks to everyone for listening and approving. Of course if it were totally awful, you would find something good to say. smile
Gary, hope you get to feeling better soon! Making music is good for your health so keep it up.

Found the lyrics. Don't remember if I ever put music with it, but I'm sure I had a melody in mind at the time. smile

Raising Rice in Texarkana

Many years ago, on a cold and rainy day,
A young Texas couple found a little time to play,
Around.
The love they shared that afternoon, turned into something more.
And a short nine months later there was one more than before,
In the family.

Now I never knew the story but they called the young boy Rice.
I suppose they had their reasons or just had some bad advice.
Who knows for sure?
Who cares?

As the little boy grew older and the years slipped on away,
He discovered music and soon he learned to play,
Country, mostly.

Raising Rice in Texarkana wasn’t easy I am sure.
But he’s living proof a little seed can certainly mature.
He makes the world a little better with his songs and his advice.
And I’m glad a Texas family had a baby they called Rice

[Spoken] Years ago, for sure.
And maybe it was Arkansas not Texas?
Wish they’d a called him something that was easier to rhyme . . .

Okay Don, you asked for it. It's AWFUL!....awful that cookie-cutter songs written by those two guys that write 80% of all the commercial tunes, get thousands of hours of airplay while good solid, creative, and yes, commercially viable, tunes such as the one you just presented here, never (or rarely) see the light of day commercially. Just doesn't seem fair. I can imagine the frustration of people like Dave Rice trying to break into that elite little circle. Seems like the quality of the product has little to do with it's chance for (commercial) success. Sad.

You scared me there for a minute Chas, but I was ready to take it! smile
I totally agree with you. Although there are lots of good songs being written, it's sad that not many make it commercially.
Over the years, I've even had some "connections", but apparently not the RIGHT connections.
I do appreciate the nice things you said about the song though. Thank you my friend!

Yeah, Don, when I started reading chas' response I was thinking what's he talking about, that song is great!?!" ... but I shudda known ...

Great job, Don, and yes, it's a shame that some really great songs and great talent goes unnoticed ...

No doubt Bill - semi-live music - is experiencing that, along with Dave ...

Re: How old is your heart? :) - 06/13/19 01:57 PM

Bill is steadily cranking out songs. He is recording a number of his songs in Nashville for an album. He is using some of the top artists to do the music and is singing them himself. Don't know when he plans to finish up.

always was & always will be.. but never give up you never know.
Good luck to Bill.

Thanks for sharing that lyric, Don:

More truth than poetry there... LOL!

I'm glad for the update about Bill. If he is getting a demo band to back him singing his own creations... he will soon need a serious cash infusion!

I've had a few demos done and the problem is compounded when you have nowhere to send them and nobody that really counts in the "Biz" to listen. It's become a great hobby... and sure helps fight boredom here in West Mayberry!

When I get this series of medical procedures completed... hopefully I'll drift over to Ernest's to hear some great music and toast the "Man" behind the Arranger.

Don

As I always have said, no one plays the "guitar" licks on the keys like you...ever....and the song....is fantastic....!!!

I also have heart problems (I had a heart attack almost 4 years ago), now with a stent, pace maker with defibrillator, and lots of med...and more test to come in the near future....but, we have lemons, we make lemonade and keep going. So, I dig it too.

I think music keep us sane and I dont think about it, just be reasonable careful.

Excellent recording!
