Which model win 10, android, ios tablet, etc, R U using for charts, lyrics, Mp3's, etc,....? and why? One thing I surly would need is MULTI Window Mode
after trying so many tablets in the past ALL have been sent back as nothing so far beats my laptop for my needs in a multi window, with a minimum of 3 windows always open and a music player. and lightning fast tactile search navigational efficiency using your fingers vs swiping etc,...... I'll repeat NOTHING.

I have an RCA Pro 12 and just bought a Microsoft Pro 12" to replace my Asus win 10. I bought it refurbished on Ebay for a good price, as I needed to be able to print the set lists and PDF for my band.

Donny, check out the Dell 11.6 inch 2 in 1 computer. I bumped up the ram from 4gb to 8gb. Has a 500gb hard drive. Folds in half to act like a tablet, but opens up to act like a notebook computer. Touch screen running Windows 10. I paid $229 @ Office Depot. They matched online price. You get all the functionality of a full blown pc and tablet combined. I think the model I have is Dell 3185. Food for thought. JM

Donny, I have noticed that the Dell is a far superior quality product compared to the RCA. I purchased an RCA and it died within 6 months. The Dell definitely has a quality feel to it and functionality is smooth. Good Luck! JM

JM ... did you contact RCA about that? I don't believe in jinxes so I will say it - the only problem I had with the RCA was because I really mis-handled it and the touch screen stopped working ... RCA repaired the unit for $45 ...

Hi Stephen
The tablet is a Hipstreet Phantom II.
I made the stand extn from 3 parts a cutdown music stand (Stagg) a mic stand fitting (Pulse) and a section cut from an old dual keyboard stand I had lying about oh and a short piece cut from the top of a mic stand.

Tony...I got a good deal on the unit so I wasn’t losing any sleep over it. The mouse decided to disappear on the unit. No matter what I did, software wise and driver updating...it just didn’t work. The unit retailed at $175...got it for $59. Worked OK for about 6 months...then no mouse. So moved up to the Dell. Thanks, JM

For music related things, an ipad is allways the best solution. All the music apps are available.. and support for apple models lasts 5 or more years.(android software updates about 6 months)
However, its not a cheep options, but also for apple goes you get what you pay for. If i had to compare apple to a keyboard brand, it would be Yamaha Where android devices varry from Korg all the way down to Medelli..

Ipad is not an option since it cant be split into more then 2 multiple displays at once unless I am mistaken... I need 3 plus a music player all on on screen open.

The 18.4 Galaxy view is discontinued; available used, and the stand can be removed (YouTube how to videos). There a new version out, the galaxy view2, 17.3" screen..

Donny, you're not making a fair comparison. The ipad is NOT a laptop, and works very differently regarding open windows. The touch screen allows for instant access to way more than 3 windows, so in effect, you can have dozens of windows available, and a music player always at hand in each. They are different beasts, and if you take the time to adjust your technique, you may find that a tablet can be much easier than a laptop screen that is run by a keyboard, and mouse. I made the switch long ago, and haven't looked back.

Well it looks like a road trip breakfast & tablet demo.. it will take a lot to convince me..... but, if I see it in action for my needs as you say it will give me more to consider.

What you want is a windows tablet/ all in one with touchscreen.. Even better, a laptop that can be turned into a tablet..
If you want 3 screen sections, i would go for windows..
Re: Which 12" tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/19/1909:38 AM
I repeat ... they are not the same thing. Ipad offers infinite window access, and Zero delay looking for music player. If you want a laptop - great, but the ipad has incorporated the touchscreen in a whole new way. (as usual, for innovative Apple) Both have a place in the workforce, but they are not the same animal, so to compare the two formats is a bit unfair. They work very differently.
With that said ... I know where Donny is coming from. Been there, but moved ahead. Sleek, fast, reliable, and smaller footprint in the rig. Donny - Come see my new studio, and I'll demo! (now that you're a man of leisure)
Re: Which 12" tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/19/1910:08 AM
My 2 pennies worth. I would not be without my iPad not only for the gigs I play but also for everyday use. I’ll add that I wouldn’t be without my laptop either but for the most part the laptop serves me in a different way. I enjoy photography and the laptop is my choice for working on photos and enhancing them. The iPad has some great apps for working on photos and I do use it for photos but the laptop is the preferred choice. As someone wrote they are different beasts.
I love the fact that my Genos registrations can be called up by choosing a lead sheet on the ipad and vice versa wirelessly. I’ll give a plug to Korg and Mobile sheets pro here too because the Pa4x, my Android tablet work the same way on the Korg as they do on the Genos. Ain’t technology grand!!
Re: Which 12" tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/20/1905:05 AM
Donny, I use a 9.7 iPad with an OnSong app. I only use written music (notes) for 15% of my songs; OnSong can also display PDF files. When I turn the iPad in a horizonal position, the lyrics become 40% larger, which is all I need.
My question: You need to split a tablet into two or more parts; How are you using those parts? I’m always ready to learn. John C.

1 window list for backing Track songs that I sing and play with plus style play with KB. 1 window for songs that I DJ 1 window for lyrics word files if needed and my Win Amp music player...

Update... after looking into and trying & discussing this topic with many of my pro gigging player friends the final solution for MY needs was a 128G iPad running the BACKTRAX APP CLASSIC for ios it works flawlessly to play Mp3's & simultaneously show/sync lyrics with many options needed, custom Playlists, scrolling, stop after each song, etc, for musicians that play & sing. I also use a TRAKFORM iPad tablet holder on a Mic stand which works great also. using the Bose S1 pro with battery or AC wire.. with a XVive U3 Wireless Mic system Bluetooth really works well and leaves you cable free http://www.xviveaudio.com/productInfo.asp?id=366
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/29/1910:17 AM
Now that Donny has found what fits his needs, and this has NOTHING to do with what gear ANYONE else uses, but I just want to say that last week I worked two gigs with my guitar player friend in NJ ... He has been using the RCA Pro12 tablet along with Mobile Sheets Pro for playing backing tracks and scrolling lyrics ... I was quite impressed with how well it works (I don't use mine the same way), and answering some requests 'on the fly' resulted in no down time ... It's great that there are SO many options available to fill our personal needs and budgets ...
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/29/1910:26 AM
Tony, I use the same thing as your guitar player for displaying fakebook sheets at rehearsal. For that particular task, I can't think of anything that would work better and it's far and away the CHEAPEST solution. As for Donny's 'turn-on-a-dime decision making....hey, he could be president .
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/29/1910:56 AM
chas ... yes, I'm using the Pro12 also, for lead sheets ... I have it linked to my KB via a USB midi cable ... if I call up a tune on the KB, it automatically calls up the lead sheet on the tablet, and if I call up a lead sheet on the tablet, it automatically calls up the KB settings I want for that song ... quick, easy, and as you said - cheap ... (but still of very good quality)...

A brand loyalists I never was. I simply will buy and use whatever necessary for the job, all else gets dumped fast. certain apps and programs only work for ios like BACKTRAX Classic program... I have used Bose in the past L1/Compcts, etc,... it just wasn't a perfect fit. I was reluctant with the Bose S1 pros but they fit the void in between my big JBL Eon One PA system which I love,... and is very very versatile in so many ways for all else smaller that you can throw at it with Battery/AC/FX and wireless Bluetooth, KB/Guitar, and great sound,... I am still impressed with them. You can use it anywhere with a Bluetooth Mic & iPad player.

Tony, I hope you don't mind I'm going to chime in on this. Using Mobile Sheets and in Songbook on the Korg you set a number usually a 3 digit , then with the midi function in Mobile Sheets you set a the same 3 digit midi number there. There's a set of insntructions for the initial settings for the Korg and for Mobile Sheets. After I post this message I'll find the links to the manuals.
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/30/1907:26 AM
I'm using the iPad Pro (12.9") also, with the unrealBook app. I don't need to play tracks, so I use it for music (PDF file) display with the musician's music display app 'unrealBook' which has worked well. This app does have music player features, but I don't use them so I can't report on how well they work etc.
I also use wireless MIDI from the iPad to my Genos, to recall registrations (I've written about that in other threads), plus AirTurn units for page-turning. I network with up to 4 other iPads in band/jam/party situations also, so that they all display the same music that I show on my 'master' iPad (this is a function within unrealBook).
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/30/1907:45 AM
That sounds good, Jim ... A jazz sax player friend of mine uses 'unReal book' and loves how he can change keys, tempo, even rhythm - Bossa to Swing etc. The Pro 12 with Mobile Sheets Pro can also be used as a 'master' to keep others literally 'on the same page' as clients ... I purchased a second Pro 12 for back up and when I make changes or updates on the master it takes about 10 seconds to update the back up ... Great stuff ...
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/30/1908:48 AM
JIm, I use Songbook Plus and unReal book on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro too. The only reason I’m using Songbook plus is because it links PDFs very easily to the Genos. I hadn’t realized that unReal book would work the wirelessly with registrations. Overall I find unReal book to be a better choice for file manipulation than Songbook Plus. Thanks for the post I’ll have to investigate using unReal book with Genos.
Jim, That leads me to the question do you have to use MSBs and LSBs to configure the PDFs/Genos to recognize registrations? Songbook Plus is just a one touch operation at the Genos and Songbook plus

Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/30/1911:16 AM
Hi - re: unrealBook - someone mentioned using it to change keys, tempos, rhythm ... I think that must be some other app. unrealBook is a music display program; it displays PDF files. It has lots of great features for Set Lists, searches, metadata (keywords), organizing PDF files ("sheet music") and such. It does not have any features related to key changes, rhythms, tempos. It can send MIDI commands though, so maybe your friend was using its MIDI abilities to change the key/tempo/rhythm of a piece of hardware (or software synth/sequencer?)
unrealBook itself has no "sequencer" or rhythm machines etc.

Hi - answering the question about recalling registrations on Genos (or Tyros) via MIDI, I wrote a lot (and others too) in an old thread (Below). Yes, you have to enter MSB and LSB info, but I made an Excel spreadsheet that makes this much easier. If you want it feel free to message me and I can send it . . . or email me at

Jim
Jim, Thanks for the offer but based on the ease of linking registrations of the Genos with the Songbook Plus app, I’m going to stick with it. I guess the only penalty I’m paying is keeping both Songbook Plus and unReal book with the same tunes, if I had anything to either one I have to update the other.

I have a few of those Xvive systems ... had 'em for months now, and I love 'em. They also work with line level signal, so I sometimes use them to connect to a powered speaker in another zone without having to plug in. Using the S1Pro, you don't even need a power cord. I have had several occasions to use a single S! on a stand, with the wireless plugin, and place it where it needs to be with no thought of wires, or electricity. Tomorrow, I DJ a picnic for a local school, and I'll use 2) QSC K-8s on stands, each sending a wireless signal to 2) S1Pros on stands about 50' away from each of them for a quad-like experience.

Can you use 2 S2pros with one Xvive system mic... Stereo linked?
Re: Which tablet R U using for charts,lyrics,Mp3's - 05/30/1908:37 PM
Sure, but you need 2 separate units, set to different channels. Your mixer main outs will each drive one U3. I know you can stereo link 2 S1s via bluetooth, so if you're using a stream for music, you don't need a mixer for stereo.

There is a reason behind that.. First i use it for making music.. (and not just for reading sheet music)
Many great virtual synthesizers are available on the ipad.. - these are not available for Android - these are available for Windows tablets at about 5 times the price of the ios app (20 vs 100 euro) I recently sold most of my VST Collection..
The ipad is really powerfull and can do it all.. With Camelot pro there is an awesome host in the making.. There is aven an arranger part planned for this host in the distant future
What the ipad offers that android and linux tablets dont : - my favorite sheet music app is ipad only - many pro apps are only available on ipad (not just camelot pro) - software support for probably close to a decade.. - good used prices, and easy to sell when you upgrade. - secure sceure secure... - most apps that come with hardware are only ios,.. (i explained why severaltimes) - and much much more..
Now Windows definately is a good option for a tablet.. But windows pro tablets that can run software equally well to the ipad are rare and cost twice as much as the ipad pro... ( high end windows vst’s like omnisphere rquire 32GB mem to run smoothly). Also the same apps on windows cost several times as much as the ipadd version..
Some examples of this : - camelot pro : €20 vs €100 - a minimoog synth €16 vs €89 - Waldorf Nave €20 vs €100
Most of my sound needs are covered by modx and genos.. Thats why i mostly host Virtual synthesizers on the ipad pro.. And use it as a fullfledged daw..
Some examples of synths.. - Minimoog model d - waldorf Nave -Korg wavestation -korg M1 - Yamaha CS80

I am, Jill. When I use my guitar/sax rig (which is most of the time) I use the iPad Pro (12.9") for my main screen for tracks, and I have an older iPhone 6 in my pedalboard as a secondary audio source, for smooth fades, quick searches, and backup, if needed. If I'm playing keys, I use 2 iPad Airs (9.7"), and they sit nicely on the music rack for quick access. I merge the two into a small DJ mixer and feed that into the main KB/vox signal to the house, or whatever system du jour is applicable!
The iPad Pro is my newest unit, and probably the fastest processor, although for my playback needs, I don't notice any difference in performance ... just real estate.
