I recorded this last night

I recorded this last night - 03/05/19 10:17 AM

Last night, I sat down at the Keyboard after hearing an instrumental recording of the same song on another forum. Though she did a great job of it, I've always found this particular song demanded vocals.

The next step was find a style that I liked, then give it a try. Problems set in with my deteriorating lungs, so I had to take a couple whiffs of Albuterol followed by some Jim Bean Honey Bourbon on the rocks. Both are great medications, at least for me.

Here's my rendition of Mariah

You did a good job on this one Gary; hope you can remain strong enough to keep on singin'!

Thanks old friend, and I'm working on getting stronger by climbing on the recumbent bike every day for peddling a mile, then working out with light weight arm weights at 100 reps per arm every evening.

Hope to get the boat in the water early next week, then motor 22 miles to another marina for some much needed repairs, new rub rails, fibglass gel coat touch up, new cutlass bearing anchor bolts, and with luck, find that damned cabin top leak that is a PITA every time it rains. Been trying to find the leak source for 3 years, but so far, it has eluded me. The marina says they can find it and fix it. I said I would pay them an extra $500 if they could do it.

Thanks again for listening and commenting,

Gary. We had similar leak in our MotorHome...The entry point is never where you think it is !!!

Re: I recorded this last night - 03/05/19 11:50 AM

Graham, the big problem with boats is there are a huge number of things attached to the cabin top with bolts and screws holding them in place. If just one of those 300 or more screws wasn't properly caulked during installation, that tiny opening allows lots of water to enter the space between the inner and outer hull, which can be a problem with mold formation if not fixed. So far, no mold, but lots of water seeping in.

Keeping my fingers crossed,

I'm doing my best, Tony. Today has been a bit difficult, but I look at life this way. Every day is a good day, just some days are much better than others.

Have truer words EVER been spoken ? ... If only we could all live with that sentiment ... None of us has any idea as to what the next second is going to bring ... age is not the determining factor in how or how long we are going to live ...
Live as best you can ...

You took me back to 1956 and Don The Beachcomber's in Honolulu... where I heard the Kingston Trio perform this song almost as well as you, Gary. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your renditions and wish I had your wisdom and energy. ----Dave

Re: I recorded this last night - 03/06/19 05:48 AM

Gary, when I listen to your song what came first is that he is losing about 20% of his ability to sing and play. BUT – the old guy is still got 80% going for him. I enjoyed your song.

How did I decide on these percentages? Well Gary has shared his wisdom in many areas; and now here on this forum you are TEACHING us how to live the last trail in our lives. It does not get better than this --- we learn form you, and you get the joy of helping others.

This one is for you Gary:
A group of men were talking about a friend in his later years. One man said you can judge the value of a man by the people who love him. Another man said, NO! You judge the value of a man by the number people he has helped. AMEN
!
Take good care my friend, John C.

Re: I recorded this last night - 03/06/19 07:57 AM

Thanks guys, for those kind words and taking time to listen to this old codger sing and play. I'm doing my best to stick around as long as I can, unfortunately, Mother Nature seems to be throwing curve balls at me lately. I recently had a bad contraindication with a new medication the pulmonary doc put me on, damned near killed me. Blood pressure shot down to 75/30 and my pulse rate went up to 125. Then I had to go back on a 10 day regiment of Prednisone, which will quickly add 10 to 15 pounds on my weight. I'm a bit better now that I got off that nasty, very expensive drug.

Today, it's just 20 degrees outside, so this old codger is going to spend the day inside, maybe mess with the keyboard and see if I can kick out another song.

Thanks again my friends, for being here,

Gary cool
