Thanks Fran, you beat me to it!

Thanks Donny, I have some Spanish language material that I'll be sharing soon.

Thank you Tracy for listening!

I got inspired to learn this tune from a posting from an SZ member awhile back, he did a very nice big band/vocal arrangement of it. Sorry I don't remember his name, but I believe he's from NY. I think he plays a Yamaha.

Anyways, this was recorded using my Audya 5 in auto-accompaniment mode with RH comping and piano fills.. My wife added some background vocals on the bridge. My brother in-law did the sax work. He said he never heard the tune, had no chart, and didn't even bat an having to play in the concert B. Did it in one take too. Wish I had his talent/skills!

Have a great weekend!

One of my favorites and never thought of using a Latin beat. Nice change from BB. I tried playing along and found it was in B. That was the end of that.

Re: Paul's latest upload - 03/01/19 06:33 AM

Thanks Bernie, Dave, and Sparky.

True confession- I learned the song in C, and thought it sounded OK, but after recoding it, I thought the vocal sounded a bit bit strained. I pushed “minus one” the keyboard... I’m actually considering doing a again in Bb, I know most sax players would prefer that ... I’ll try to learn it without using the transpose button this time!

Nice. I love Latin Rhythms. What is that sitting on top of the keyboard ? Looks too big to be an IPAD.

Sounding, and looking good, Paul. Glad to see someone is getting use out of those shirts and vests. Additionally, that is one of my favorite songs of all time and I have heard it performed in a dozen genres. Great job.

Cheers,

Love it! To echo another post, never thought of this with a latin rhythm. Back in the 50's, our band played this song out of a "Combo-Orks' book - does anyone remember Combo-Orks? Good Job Paul.

Paul,

Nice variation of an old standby tune.

I remember the Combo Orks back in the Accordion days. They also had Polkas, Square dance and Waltz books.

Paul, I have to echo what others have said, as that is an excellent rendition, both vocally and instrumentally ...

Was there a band/small combo in the '50s that DIDN'T play from Combo-Orks books ? grin

Thanks guys for taking the time to listen and comment.

I should have mentioned my wardrobe consultant is Gary Diamond! Thanks Gary for making me look so sharp!

Oh, the device on the music rest is an ipad pro. I just use it for my charts. It looks better if I put it on a mic stand off to the side....

Paul ... My first listen was on my phone and it sounded really nice, but I just listened on my PC and it really sounds great ... I am so happy you give me the ideas to play some of these standards in a non-standard way ...

Please keep posting, my friend ...

Hey Tony, I’ m honored you listened again!
I do have to give my “ primo” (cousin) Rafael Rosales
credit for his recording skills. Besides being a great singer, musician he is really getting good with music production too. He’s done some fabulous work with full bands and singers too. Lucky that he lives around the corner from me!!

Re: Paul's latest upload - 03/05/19 08:06 PM

Paul what I heard was tender, delicate fill with a gentle Latin rhythm -- it does not get better. It also tells me a lot about you.

John C.
PS, tell your brother-in-law he is good. When I heard his solo I sat at the tip of my chair.

Hey, thanks John. I feel like I've gotten to know better too after hearing you're music. I know we like a lot of the same material, I bet we'd have a nice time playing together.

I'll let my brother-in-law know... He's a humble guy really, and has played all over, is very in demand especially in the Tejano circuit. He also does an amazing job teaching elementary school kids all the band instruments.
