My Kn7000 Is Not Working

My Kn7000 Is Not Working - 02/23/19 11:42 AM

Sad news, my Kn7000 has stopped working. Everything is working but the keys are not sending any info to the rest of the keyboard. Chord changes and sound.

Its as if the line between keys and the rest of the keyboard was cut. This does not sound like it’s a major problem, I hope.

Anyone experience this problem?

I would check the cable(s) coming from the keyboard to the motherboard. It may have come loose. Best of luck.

John, it's a long shot, but if the keys are silent and everything else work, as i.e. if play a midifile, then maybe the 'local' option is set to off.
There is a feature someplace in the menu, maybe in the midi part, where 'local' can be set to on or off.
Hopefully is it as simple solution as that.

John ... I hope it is a quick and easy fix for you ...
Of not, can you 'SAVE' everything and then do a Factory Reset, see if it works and then reload?

Local off sounds like it is the problem... but, Make sure you do not have an expression pedal plugged into the wrong jack..

Gunnar, the keys are silent, and they also will not change a style to the next chord. There is no communication between keys and the rest of the keyboard. The only thing that plays when I select a style is the drums.
In loading and reloading I did hear a few notes when I played, but they stopped sounding after a few notes.

Gunnar thanks for your help. John C.

PS, where is the Local option???

Fran, no expression pedal connected. When the heck is the local off???

Hey, thanks for your help.

Solomon, I think you may be right. Now how do I get to it?
Thanks, John C

John,
if look at page 80 point 7 in the usermanual, it will lead you to the Local ON/OFF function and where to find it or where go next.
If you can play midifiles or saved songs, and hear sound when playback by use of start/stop, and your keys are still silent, it most likely is the local control that is in off position.

Quote part of the text:
"The LOCAL ON/OFF setting on the MIXER
display is used to specify whether the part
assigned to that track sounds when it is played
on the keyboard......"

Like Gunnar said check your keyboard's Local On/Off setting as that will cause the issue you have. Make sure it is set to ON

I just took a look at the KN7000 manual it says "On the MIDI MENU display select PART SETTING". There is a LOCAL On\Off setting for RIGHT1 RIGHT2 and LEFT and they should all be ON for normal use. If they are ON then you may have a hardware issue. Though I would first try turning them OFF then back ON again.

Re: My Kn7000 Is Not Working - 02/24/19 05:24 AM

I do not believe that a setting is causing he problem. (In my limited Knowledge)

1-The keys will not make the style do chord changes.

2-I did get some sound a few times when I pressed the keys, but it faded after a few seconds. An on and off setting would not react that way.

3-I did get sound for a very short period when I move the cover. That only happened once for a very short time.
Now to find a Technion that will handle the problem.

Nigel, Gunnar, thank you for helping, John C.

John is it possible being its an older unit that the key strip contacts have worn out causing the problem?

Re: My Kn7000 Is Not Working - 02/24/19 01:20 PM

If it were the contact strip I doubt they would all wear out at once. I had the keyboard stop responding with a instrument. I opened it up and reseated the cables that went to and from the keyboard and the motherboard. That fixed it for me. This could be a easy fix if you are comfortable taking the instrument apart. If not, then definitely find someone to service it. Wishing you the best of luck on the repair.

Have you midied the KN7000 with another keyboard to see if it responds and plays normal. If it does that further isolates the problem as being the keybed.

John, I agree with Solomon8's suggestion re: "reseating the cables."
"Reseating the cables" has resolved a lot of my keyboard malfunctions.
As mentioned...it's just a case of getting to the cables that might be a mini challenge for the KN7000.
I have lived in Florida now for 42 years.. and I think we here in the humid climate [Florida] are even more prone to oxidization issues on cable contacts/connections.

Re: My Kn7000 Is Not Working - 02/25/19 11:24 AM

Thanks to all for your help.
Have tried everything that was recommended, to no avail.
When I load a sequence it plays without error. BUT when I try to use the outside controls, the controls when the lid is closed I get this reading; ERROR #83

The error messages I have in the manual and service manual only go up to #73or #71. Any thoughts on Error #83?

John..dealing with a discontinued model unit can be a daunting situation when service is needed and no where to turn by the manufacturer. I hope you find a solution...worse, trying to sell an older unit that has a problem is even harder...

good luck

John....
I haven't needed a tech in years...but when I did, I used John Kasche in Royal Palm Beach. Last time I saw him he was training a guy to take over his business. He wasn't cheap, but he always came through for me.

Hi John ,
So sorry to read about your problems.
I remember way back in 2004 , my kn7 died after a bad power failure, ( tree hit power line and the power slowly went down along with the keyboard)

Anyway figured must be the end, BUT, ( I think the guys name wasTechnics Player?) on the technic forum, he gave me a list of things to do, and the keyboard was back good as ever. I basically had nothing to lose.

Is it possible some sort of reset might help or is it a physical problem.

I had to post these Emails, they are about how men can relate under trying conditions. It’s a positive story. Here’s cheers to RC, ya gotta love this guy. John C.

John when I read your post I felt like throwing up. If you find the problem please let me know. If you have to have it repaired please let me know the cost if it is under 900. I will pay for it. If it cannot be fixed please let me know and I will send you 900.00. I feel so bad and I don’t want to have these feelings. I do hope it is something simple because I saw your eyes light up when I brought the keyboard in. It could be something that was loaded in with a SD card. RC (Roger Bollitti)

Ouch! You’re not gonna away with this, no way. I gave you a $100 tip for delivering the keyboard, that made me the best man. Then you gave me all that stuff in the boxes, that put you ahead of me. Now it’s my turn. (Smile)
Roger, the keyboard was working Fine until two days ago, now it’s my responsibility. But I do appreciate your concern. Take care my friend, John C

John take a picture of the keyboard when it’s turned on and send it to me. I want to look at the positioning of everything to see if I can see anything. We will work on this together because your warranty is not up, RC
