Getting ready ... - 02/13/19 08:14 AM

... for Valentine's Day gigs ...
I recorded these two yesterday on the KORG Pa900 ...
Once again, don't pay attention to the shown length of the song ... still don't know why that is happening ...

My Funny Valentine, using a 'modified' Latin Bolero style - mostly changing voices and pads, and adding a couple of tracks for this one ...

L O V E LOVE, using a 'trimmed down' Organ Blues style and pads ...

Tell us about YOUR Valentine's Day gigs ... and maybe post a song ? ...

clap well done sounds terriffic enjoy your gigs Tony clap
Tony also open the song in a DAW and trim down the size of the song to get rid of the excess recording.

Great job, Tony, I enjoyed both, but like Funny Valentine best. Great styles and vocals.

Donny, most folks in our part of the world would not know this song, despite the fact that it was also recorded by several popular artists in the US. I tried it out on my audiences and got no response. Here's my rendition, performed and recorded using the PSR-S950 several years ago.

My Valentine

Tony, very nice indeed! Liked Gary's too.
Here's My Valentine I did on PA3X in 2013. Lost the melody line on the bridge a little, but nobody noticed. smile

Thanks, all ... Looking forward to tomorrow's (Thursday) gig ... the venue has 3 sections, and the residents in each section vote for a king and queen ... They are given robes and crowns to wear ... Lots of "Miss America" and "Mr. Wonderful" ...
A really fun gig ...

BTW ... I have to thank my RI buddy Steve for this gig ... he recommended me when he started to go to FL for the Winter ... Been playing it a few years now ...

Gary, I remember when you posted that a while back ... Nice job ...

I enjoyed your version as well, Don ... and a little 'improv' never hurt anyone ...

Really enjoyed your rendition, Don. If I remember correctly, you were the one that turned me on to this song, way back when.

All the best,

Nice job with the Valentine tunes guys.

Tony, that was a fun gig for sure. I did it for 5 or 6 years in a row, I’m happy to see that Jan has kept you on board and happy to see that she’s keeping the gig within the RI contingent of SZ. I always thought we have enough competition in RI so it was a natural to pass that on to you. Have fun today and send my best to Jan.

P.S. Tony, I’m flying up next week for a brief stay to check on my mom, I have a couple of other appointments that I didn’t expect to have. One is to have a shot for my trigger finger which has been giving me more problems lately. The good news is that it’s not affecting my ability to play the keys. I’ll give you a call when I’m there but not sure I’ll be able to meet up for lunch.

Steve ... Thanks for the kind words and thanks again for the gig ... I'll tell Jan you said hi ...

I understand that you may have a full schedule, as it's a short window ... If not this time, then when you get back ...
The "Post" will be waiting for us grin ...

Safe travels, my friend ...

Very nice renditions gentlemen! Tony, I’m glad you posted My Funny Valentine as I have been struggling finding a style and key to sing in too. I tried the bolero style and singing I’m A minor like you, and it worked out great! Thank you 🙏🏼

Re: Getting ready ... - 02/15/19 11:14 AM

Paul, Thank you, and happy I could help ... anytime I post something in a Latin genre I wonder what you will think of it ... don't ever be afraid to add some constructive criticism ...

BTW, it wasn't that long ago when I could sing this in Cmin (Eb), but now, that Eb on the word 'stay' in the last chorus is a bit of a stretch, so going lower, Amin (C) is an easier key to play in ...
