Autmn Leaves, Mel Tourme style - 07/17/18 10:28 AM

I recorded this a few years ago, right after hearing it performed by Mel Torme while appearing on a rerun of an old Night Court TV show. He was among my favorite singers of all time, though I don't believe he got the recognition he should have for his incredible talent.

Here's my rendition of Autmn Leaves

This was a one shot recording on the PSR-S950, no edits other than to convert from a .wav file to an MP3.

Thx for sharing Gary. Sounded good and real clean. Nice guitar lead. This is what the forum is about, posting our songs and developing leather skin 😁

I'm doing a song a night, so beware πŸ˜€ everyone! Awful good practice to sharpen the skills and be humbled. Having fun!

Nicely done Gary ... Personally I would have used a softer jazz guitar sound with that style but that's just a matter of personal preference ...

Way to go Gary, Zuki, and Tony. And BTW Gary, I totally agree about Mel Torme, a singer's singer. A great stylist who also happened to have a great voice. Just in case I had a hand in it, I'm proud of myself for pushing you guys to move beyond three chords smile smile smile. As Tony said, keep them coming (that includes you too, Tony).

Trust me Tony, you don't want me to sing smile. I've been spending all my time lately trying to make peace with this Crumar SEVEN. I had to stop approaching this thing like a piano and just think Rhodes (or Wurli or Clav). This thing is so tweakable that I'm having trouble coming up with a 'signature' sound. When I do, I will record some slow ballads with just Bob (guitar)....no drums, just guitar and Rhodes. We did 'First time ever I saw your face' (Roberta Flack) and his guitar work almost brought me to tears.

Thanks to everyone for listening and commenting. Tony, you are right about the guitar, should have been a nylon jazz guitar, but I really liked the effects of the one I selected.

Looking forward to hearing more songs here on a regular basis. There is a huge talent pool here and it's nice to be able to hear your productions.

All the best,

Hey Gary Torme, I like! Nice job. Torme is one of my favorites, our native jazz pianist Mike Renzi was Torme’s pianist for a number of years.

Uhh Oh! Sounds like Zuki's got a shady past. Hope his wife doesn't read Synthzone (actually, a lot of us count on that smile ).

Used to ride 250 cc Yamaha trail bikes with Mel in the Desert outside LA. in the early 60's. He actually demonstrated improve possibilities by having me play guitar, with him on piano. He was a hell of a piano player, and got universal appreciation from serious musicians and singers around the world. He was so good, he was confidant and kind at the same time. Same with Ray Brown and (I hear) Vince Gill.

He was the one who convinced me (by actions, not words) that what I wanted to do was not going to pay what other musical endeavors would.

A delightful person, who, in a few visits, influenced my for a lifetime.
