Dang it boy, soundin' mighty country there.
Is that a midi file?
That song is considered the #1 country song of all time.

Thanx Don,.... Always loved this song ever since I heard Hank and yourself do it when I visited you in Shreveport LA....
It's a mix of a few different formats put together,
vocal thru TC Helicon Harmony Singer...

Re: For Don Mason... - 04/23/18 06:52 AM
BIAB, EA7, SMF, all contributed to creating this track to sing on top of,......
it's always fun to experiment with different sources when doing a project,.....
that said just found an appropriate Roland country style on the EA7 that would fit well also, when I get time I'll record it using only style play/vocal too. Would love to hear some other players try this song on other arrangers too, give it a shot... Genos, Psr 970, Ketron SD7, Audya, Pa4x, etc,?....take care.

Donny, I've been performing this song since I was a young man playing a guitar in honky-tonk bars in Baltimore. I always perform my songs live, no midis, no editing and this one was recorded during a live performance.

Hi Donny, Gary and Don
Donny you did ask
I recorded this back in 2014 (It seemed like a good idea at the time)
please excuse the pseudo accent I don't mean to offend anyone but it
might prove to be a laugh for you genuine Americans.

In 1975, I was hired to back "The Possum" at the Continental In Lexington.
No one could find him at showtime or for the next 3 days. He finally surfaced...had been in a walk-in closet at the other end of the hotel with several bottles.
Believe it or not, on the third night, he and a friend showed up at my 1:00 AM-4:00 AM job at an after hours club. They staggered thru the door.
I started doing a parody of "He stopped Loving Her Today". It was pretty gross....body parts falling off when he embraced her, etc.
Can't imagine why no one liked it!
OH WELL!

Donny, Russ is a tease. I've got a short clip (video) of him doing 'What are you doing the rest of my life' which is fantastic, but despite my harassing him, I can't get him to do the whole song (with just guitar accompaniment, just like in the video clip). I want it to play at my or my wife's funeral, whichever one of us goes first (I'm serious). I'll keep trying though (and hoping he has plenty of time to do it
).

Great renditions of two great songs, Col. And, what I love about your accent is your perfect diction, which makes every single word and syllable very distinct and crystal clear. There's a big difference in the English languages spoken by those residing in the UK, Oz and US. Not only the distinct accents, but also the diction, which is far more pronounced in other nations than the US. I only wish they would adopt this in American schools. Ironically, there was a diction school in Nashville, TN, USA that taught diction to many, many of the top singers in the US, including Elvis. The lady that taught the course was from London, if I recall.
All the best,
Gary

Thank you Donny and Gary, I've just bought myself a Liverpool to play around with maybe I'll try some Beatles songs with a scouse accent.
Talking about diction Gary, when at the ripe old age of 72, courtesy of a comment posted here by Mark, I went for singing lessons where the young lady really emphasised the importance of diction, I suppose some of it stuck.

Three nice versions here - although Donny's is missing ?!?
- glad I listened to it earlier ...
I don't use a LOT of midi files or backing tracks but I have to say I really like the way Donny built the background with the additional instruments and voices, much like a record producer would ...

Chas, I can think of no greater (or sadder) honor. I'l record it and be there personally to do it, if possible. Look at today's email. I think we are indirectly saying the same thing.
Best personal regards,
R.
P.S. There IS nothing more important or time consuming in my life.

Nice work! Both versions are excellent. Melody line is a little off from George's version, but it works just fine.
I still like the drums and styles on the EA7!

Don, even the year matched..
62 was a tough year for me too. It was my first year in college and I had to leave my longtime girlfriend behind back at home. I was busy with school and basketball and she got busy with one of my old friends. We later got back together and actually married, but things were never QUITE the same, ending in divorce after seven years.

Tony a real nice job, I'm happy that you took the time to share your version with us, well done, & thanx for using the VH on your KORG during your vocal. The style fits very well, Harmonica gives a nice feel also Bravo!
I hope a few more players will join in using different keyboards also. These challenges are really fun for everyone and I hope we all learn from listening to each other after all that's what it's all about. Either a vocal or instrumental the main thing is we are playing. The ongoing this is better then that is really getting old. Listening to others play songs & discussing technic etc, is much more pleasing don't you think?
Again Tony well done paisan!!

Yes, Don, I'm just about positive it's the same style you used ... I listened to your version and went through the Country styles to find one like yours ... if I can't learn from the Master, who can I learn from ...

Nice job, Tony. My only criticism - get the heck on BOX like everybody else
. I hate having to download before I can listen. Sometimes it even discourages me from listening to something I'd ordinarily want to hear. Of course I'm pulling your chain a little, but actually I think most here, given a choice, would prefer being able to listen without having to first download. But I'm being picky. The main thing is get your music out there. That Korg sounds damned good, but then I'm a big Korg fan but don't want to start a war by mentioning it
.
