Many years ago, I made guitar picks from the scales of monster black drum, a fish that reaches weights exceeding 100 pounds in Chesapeake Bay. The fish are only marginal eating quality, but those scales were perfect guitar picks.

There is an almost endless variety of material, thickness, shape and size of picks.
I generally don't use one at all.
