you can really hear the nuances in the sounds between the stereo field.... its a beautiful thing..

I owned the XP 80 from 1998 to 2010. For its time, it was a great synth, especially with the SR-JV expansion boards.

Roland makes excellent digital pianos.....what I am trying to show is the stereo sound no matter what Piano is used..

If the sound is stereo sampled, then by all means, stereo is the only way to go in order to obtain the full depth of the sound. However, if the sound was not stereo sampled, there is absolutely no benefit whatsoever. Keep in mind that when you attend a large concert, everything is in mono. Same as when a big band is on stage and all the instruments are mic'd up - it's a wonderful experience, at least from my perspective, and everything is in mono. In real life, the person that benefits most from stereo is the performer - not the audiences.

Interesting point Gary. The only true stereo experience live would be a symphonic orchestra performance (depending on you seating).

Bass in a live performance is Omni directional, so panning is irrelevant. Depending on your live mix...I suspect pseudo stereo is the best you can get.

gee I didn't kn ow we had audio engineers here....most players are too lazy to carry two speakers as a OMB show on the road...but hey to each their own its only your sound in question right?......
for me Stereo always....but what do I know..

My setup was always two speakers for these effects also.

First, on my Roland U-20 I used two oscillators for my string patch. I detuned each one by a hair from perfect pitch (one slight above "0" one slightly below 0)and then panned each oscillator to a different speaker. The result as I recall was a wall of sound of strings. They were swirling all around me....very filling.......very inspirational.

Second reason......I was playing an instrument with one hand on the DX7 and one on the U-20. Each patch was carefully panned. I had the speakers just enough apart to "separate" the sound. So if i was playing "trumpet" on one keyboard it would be playing out of say the left speaker and the sound from the other hand (trombone, clarinet, etc), would emanate from the other. I wanted to accomplish an actual band sound for the listener....the different "horn" sounds coming from different areas of the stage. Don't know if it ever worked.....I couldn't walk into the audience zone to hear myself play.

Donny...you know a lot. Your absolutely right about the pleasing sound of stereo. Unfortunately, most live performances are subjected to harmonic idiosyncrasies of the room their performing in.

When I had the big studio in Wisconsin...the control room was tuned to accurately reproduce a stereo field only at ear level of the engineer. We always would check a mix in mono making sure there was minimal phase cancellation. If you could get the mix sounding good in mono...and then pop it into stereo...it would sound so much better.

Jingle man we are talking about small room one man band Acts not a big concert venue there is a big difference....

Donny...all I am supporting is what Gary stated...stereo is almost impossible to discern in any venue, be it large or small.
