Tony,.....I will admit there are some things about Genos I like but at this stage not enough to make me spend that kind of money,....
I'm content with the EA7 for now,....I am enjoying my time with it making it mine sound/style wise, as Roland makes you become a creative player as it should be without the OOTB factory persuasion,....you edit, tweak, & create till your hearts content as all the tools are in there and the result is something beautiful. Many, many, EA7 demos online do not do this KB justice, why?....
because they haven't taken to time to do their homework with it I can easily hear that,. It's very underrated, but I saw thru that and now I am enjoying the fruits of my labor!! wink
.........enjoy your weekend. cool2

Hi Donny,
wish you’d stop posting demo clips of the Genos, I’m trying to downsize my collection of keyboards down to one, not have you dangling the Genos in front of me. Haha.

Rikki, whatever you do, don’t play a Genos. grin

You might be adding rather than downsizing.

Genos is the best arranger I’ve owned and a great musical experience. smile

Re: Genos BIG BAND SOUND.. - 03/10/18 11:14 AM

Haha, I think I’m safe, no one sells them around here. Better be careful where we eventually move to , just in case, there might not be enough room in our next home for hubby and a new Genos . Haha. Downsizing homes is not fun when one has a heap of stuff collected over many years.
Glad to hear you’re really enjoying your Genos.

Rikki, Nah you’d hate the Genos, I know I do laugh laugh but be sure to take the advice “don’t go play one.”

Rikki, on the upside, getting a Genos might be a good way to test the strength of your marriage smile smile.......not that I'm recommending it smile.

Hi Stephen, gather you’re enjoying yours. I think I’ll be staying with my korg, AND, avoiding any places where they may have a Genos. Haha

Really, you’re not? Haha

Been stuck with him for over 45 years, don’t think he’s going anywhere.

No, real issue will space, planning on selling our 5 bedroom home and moving to something with 2. Lots of stuff to get rid of, can’t afford to compound problem, with an additional 76 note keyboard. Haha

smile smile smile well that's one way to put it. Pretty sure my wife would phrase it exactly the same way smile. But on a serious note, I can relate to the 'downsizing' thing. Serious health issues will probably force us to downsize as well. I don't really mind moving to smaller quarters (our current house is 6 bedrms/5 1/2 baths and finished 1700 sq ft basement) which is grossly excessive for two old folks. My main concern is the same as yours; what to do with a massive collection of musical (and other) junk collected over the last 20-30 years. Most of it is dated and not worth much (such is the curse of fast-moving technology). I'm sure I'll donate most of it to a school music program in an underserved district after my kids and grandkids pick through it. I will keep my acoustic piano and my organ and maybe some recording gear but keeping the organ will mean having to keep some PA gear to play it through; oh well!

Don't know if basements are common in NSW but it's one way you can combine a small living space with a large storage space. That's sort of my plan. I just bought our current house in May of 2016 and knew when I bought it that it was way too big, but it was gorgeous, in a great neighborhood, and priced right. We have another house in Sun City Center, FL but we want to stay close to our son and grandkids who live here, so that will probably go on the market in the Fall. Life moves on. We'll adjust. Take care.

Re: Genos BIG BAND SOUND.. - 03/11/18 03:55 AM

Hi Chas, no , we don’t have basements. Wish we did.
Really difficult to get rid of stuff that one has collected over the years. As you said it’s not worth much. Good idea donating to a school, hadn’t thought of that. Hubby’s the gardener in the family, and I can see it’s starting to get too much for him. And no good paying someone to do it, he’d never be satisfied . Haha
Getting old is not fun. But have to be sensible. Figure better off sorting things out in one’s own good time, rather than have something go wrong, and then it’s panic stations.

Nice being able to stay near the kids. Unfortunately ours live a few hours away.

You take care too.

No, it's not, but the alternative to getting older is a kind of dark.... wink
When reach the repair age and retirement, many issues is not always as comfortabe,
but at least it give us time to play the keyboards a lot more than before. smile

Re: Genos BIG BAND SOUND.. - 03/11/18 11:01 AM

I realize that I’m sticking to my usual line which is basically “I have S950, don’t have extra money, so I’ll be skeptical about any keyboard except for my own” smile

Doing that, I’ll say, of course, that even s950’s jazz styles are impressive and “Live! SaxSection” voices do sound live (as in PSR’s world “Live!” means “sampled in stereo”).

But my question is what is the big goal here. As I perceive it, “Big Band” is a classy thing, which comes together with a visual (men in suits playing the instruments on stage)

Also, I had a chance to listen to a brass orchestra in a park. I couldn’t help noticing how tender real brasses can sound. When it comes to keyboards, it’s still an area when it tends to hurt your ears a little bit.

I can see why people, including ones in an audience, are impressed with Genos. Voices and styles got more authentic, more expressive.

In the same time as I see it, at least, in Moscow, most of singers who make their living working at parties (clubs, restaurants and so on) mostly rely on backing tracks. As for popular Russian music, on the internet, there are available original backing tracks of popular songs, and if something’s missing, there’re people who make backing tracks quite close to original ones for about $50 a song. If a singer composed a song of his own, he may order a backing track for it for about $100-$150.

My concern is not quite about that. I’ve been thinking lately about having too much information in our lives; more than we are capable to comprehend. The question is, aren’t you worry, that this richness of Genos’s styles may backfire? I mean, at first, okay, people are impressed, just as you are, but won’t it be overwhelming after a while? I know that I tend to get tired of music rather quickly. Now, when I’m walking in the streets, I’m listening only classical music with only one earphone. May seem strange, but I like it better – turned out, I don’t need excessive information to keep my mind entertained.

So, with no criticism, I still concerned about usefulness of an expensive arranger. Speaking about a parallel with $100 smartphone and iPhone. Recently I got my first iPhone as a gift. As a person who granted it to me expects that now I should abandon my $100 android phone, I just have to struggle with an idea that now I should be more careful about my phone, not really having practical benefits. The fact that it’s a price of a decent guitar or a keyboard makes me sad.

Technology waits for nobody its all about PROFITS as long as people PAY they will find a way to take your money & using technology is among the easiest in this high tech world....so buy the so called newest, greatest, etc,....and then in a year get ready for the another newest, greatest, the vicious cycle never ends unless YOU make it by not taking the bait each time!!

carry on........

Re: Genos BIG BAND SOUND.. - 03/11/18 11:12 AM

You‘ve brought up several interesting points there.
I agree with The aspect of the big band having a visual live component. I‘ve often had the goal to play „popular classical music“ on synthesizers with orchestral sounds, but really one of the problems why there is little demand for such a form of live music is that a real orchestra conveys a totally different live feeling also visually.
Also soundwise, even a top-notch instrument cannot replace a bigband or orchestra, and one of the bottlenecks I see is the PA system. You would need a very good and detailed acoustic stereo stage, maybe use different outputs for different orchestral sections to come closer to the wide, direct sound of a real orchestra.

Donny,

About the only videos I do now are using the iPad and post on Facebook.

Also, Donny, if you’re not sure about Genos, there are places you can order and try out. If you don’t like it, send it back.

This one is an old 'schlager', or hit if you like, and does always bring grown up people sing along and dance.
Also a nice tune for dinner music. smile
