So you're posting from your Phone? In any case be safe, and while you're at it, get out of that snarky NE weather and come on down for a visit. You can stop by Gary's and say hi on the way down. You know you're always welcome.

We've had strong winds since about 3 a.m., gusts to 75 MPH, and we lost electricity about noon today. It's still out and no idea when it will come back on. I have a back up generator, 6,700-watts that takes care of out electrical needs, and very miserly on fuel consumption. I've burned about 3 gallons in the past 9 hours. I just topped off the tank and hope that gets us through the night. I rely heavily on electricity because I need it to run my oxygen generator, which is the only think keeping me alive. I have a backup tank that will run about 4 hours if the my back up generator runs out of gasoline during the night. Sure hope the electric comes back on soon, though. Winds are down to about 35 MPH now, which means the electric crews can work a bit safer in restoring our power.
Stay safe and warm guys and gals,
Gary

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone ...
power was restored overnight, lost some branches and one small tree down in the back end of my property ... rain has stopped but still a number of hours of high winds left for today ...
It was a bad storm - two tractor trailers flipped on two different bridges, at least one dead in RI from a falling tree ... don't know what else, haven't seen the news yet ...
we are without power at tsrhis point ...

Drove around the neighborhood, fortunately not much damage to homes but a number of sizeable trees down ... We have underground utilities otherwise at least one utility pole would have been down ...
Went to my wife's sister and brother in law's house ( they are out of town for a few days) and half a huge pine tree came down and took out a corner of a raised deck ... fortunately, no structural damage to the house ...

Re: OT: NOR' EASTER ... - 03/03/18 08:36 AM
We've been without power since noon yesterday. Our emergency generator ran out of gas about 6:30 this morning, so I got out of bed and drove around looking for a gas station that had power. Had to drive about 10 miles to find one, and it was operating on an emergency generator, which was the only reason the station was open.
Still waiting for the power to be restored and it is nearly 24 hours since it went out. Sure glad I purchased this emergency generator a decade ago. I only have to use it about once a year, but this time has been the longest it has been in service for me.
Stay safe my friends,
Gary

Stay indoors and safe all you guys up there. I'm sure we'll get ours come Fall in SC. New weather pattens I thinks with 2 hurricanes and a remarkable snow storm since I moved here.
Just had an electrician put a 4 plug outlet next to our front door connected to an outlet on the inside. this way I can keep the generator under the front door overhand and not have to crack a door to run the lines. Two short lines fron the generator to the outside and then plug our necessities on the inside. Hope I never have to use it but I'm ready.
good luck to all of you.

Re: OT: NOR' EASTER ... - 03/08/18 06:09 AM
Had an interesting experience last night ... We own a 2011 BMW 328i Hardtop Convertible, which has a well deserved reputation for not being good to drive in snow ... My wife and I were attending a Lenten service at our Church and when we left home it was raining fairly hard ... the forecast called for 1 - 2 inches of snow overnight, so I figured it was fine to use the BMW as the Church is about 5 miles from home ... the Church service was barely 1 hour, but as we walked out we found that heavy snow had fallen and the flakes were so big and thick it looked like about 3 inches of snow on the ground ... As we traveled home the snow kept falling very heavily ... most of the ride was fine and fortunately a town plow was clearing the first hill I had to go up ... but when I came to where I had to turn into our development, he went straight ... the road into our development goes downhill quite a bit and then a sizeable uphill and obviously the town was taking care of main streets first ... I kept a steady pace going downhill and tried to maintain it on the uphill until the car started to slip ... another vehicle was coming behind me so I had to try to pull to the side and then I lost any traction I had ... I tried using the optional 'manual' shift in low gear but that did nothing ... fortunately, I was close to a side street that had an incline but not nearly as steep as the one I was on ... thinking about the fact that front wheel drive cars handle these conditions better than rear wheel - I believe it is the 'pulling rather than pushing' the vehicle that helps - I put the car in reverse, backed into the side street and drove in reverse until I got to level ground and could drive to our house ... I have to say that driving in reverse handled the snow better than driving forward ...

The guys the plow snow from the shopping center parking lots and clear driveways look at it the same way, Johnny - money from heaven! The cost to clear a parking lot of a major shopping center ranges $5,000 to $10,000 each time it snows, depending upon the depth. Great job for contractors with heavy equipment during the winter months when there is little to no work for them.
Cheers,

Re: OT: NOR' EASTER ... - 03/13/18 06:02 AM
The way we live in Russia in these 5-10 storey houses with hundreds of flats certainly challenges an idea of personal space. Nevertheless, reading about your experiences I have to see some silver lining, as when people live in such a compact way everything tends to be close and you don't really need a car and problems with power are usually quite rare.

And here we go AGAIN ... fourth Nor'Easter in 4 weeks hitting us today ... 5 to 10 inches depending on where you live in the state ... it's really interesting how much different the weather can be 10 miles away ... we are closer to the shore, so we USUALLY get the lower amount in the forecast ...
it's also interesting how people in RI react to a snow warning ... you would think it was Armageddon ... our Governor decided to shut down the state today even though the snow isn't expected to start accumulating until about 4PM ...
This is NEW ENGLAND, folks ... we should be used to snow and know how to handle it !!!

What gets me upset is that the ACI prison guards got double time and a half pay for the day and other state employees who did work get over time pay..........and while I’m on the soapbox the situation with 9-1-1 funds going into a general fund while some callers to the system had to be put on hold while phoning in their emergencies. They say they are understaffed but misapproiated millions of dollars caused that. Ok off the soapbox.

Spring finally arrived here, for which I am grateful to mother nature for finally allowing this extremely long, cold, damp, nasty winter to go away. For me, snow is a four letter word, and winter SUCKS!
Today, we got a souwester, bringing with it warm, balmy breezes from the southwest, clear blue skies and white puffy clouds with temperatures in the low 70s. It was just heavenly!
Dave, if you REALLY love snow, why don't you live in northern Alaska. You would have it most of the year.

Once upon a time in the mid80s, 90s and early 2000 we chased the snow to go skiing. The more the better, many times after work on Friday we’d get in the car to travel the 4 hours to New Hampshire check into a hotel and be ready to ski at 8 AM when we could get the first chair lift up to the top of the mountain. Today we prefer warmer weather.
