Keep taking plenty of liquids ... the flu is running rampant all over the country ... and just because you may have gotten a flu shot does not mean you are safe ...
If you are going into a doctor's office or hospital you should wear a mask ...

There has always been a lot of hype about getting the flu shot, especially for older folks. Unfortunately, by the time the shot becomes available, it is usually more than 2 and often more than 3 years out of date as far as that particular strain of influenza is concerned. So, just because you go the shot does not mean you will not contract the latest strain of the flu.

I got the Prevnar 13 shot to prevent Pneumococcal pneumonia. Two weeks later I was hospitalized with Pneumococcal pneumonia and damned near died. I later discovered that the vaccine was only about 75-percent effective. Wonderful!

Stay healthy, Earl,

We’re at the 100th anniversary of a flu strain that killed close to 600,000 people in 1918.

PBS did a good job of chronicling(sp?) that event.

Glad you are back at home Earl - My 97-year old MIL ("Energizer Bunny") is in a high-end nursing home here in FL... they lost 10 residents back in October due to a horrible flu outbreak. MIL ended up in the ICU due to that bout, but came out and so far is holding her own. The home where she resides has gone back into lockdown (dining rooms closed/everyone confined to rooms) for the last 10 days. This is a nasty nasty nasty flu season and we still have 13 weeks of flu season to go! Bless us all and may the flu bug "get lost" soon!

My MIL, born in 1900, was still providing square dance lessons at 95 years of age for folks who lived in her senior condo complex in Baltimore. She passed away at 97 in a nursing home with dementia. I think it's in the genes.
