PA 1000 thoug - 01/13/18 02:06 PM

OK, got it in and even my wife helped me unpack (a first), as she knows I was excited.

PROS:

Nice looking board
Great screen
Good enough navigation
Speakers are excellent

CONS:

In now way does it offer the power of my 3x (I am mixing both through my mixer with flat setting)
Less style categories
No fill buttons / auto fill is quirky (again)
Some great styles from the 3X are gone, or reworked, not to my liking
Sounds boxy to my ears

These are my first thoughts and I took a break after 3 hours. I;ll head back later and try to forget about the 3X in comparison.

At this moment, I would dump it for another 3X or a 4X 61 key, but afraid I might not like the 4X either.

A bit disappointed and a bit down...... more later

When I first got my Pa700 I thought it was a bit flat sounding when compared to my Pa50sd but when I changed the Eq settings on the Pa700 it came alive.

Re: PA 1000 thoug - 01/13/18 04:18 PM

I set some different settings, but it's much more than that. I have too much time and effort invested in the beloved 3X. I have the 1000 boxed back up and will seek a 61 note 3X. That'll make me happy and lighten the load, + a mirror backup. What was I thinking???

Zuki ... It is always difficult to go from the TOTL to the MOTL in anything ... It's like if you were driving a fully equipped 10 years old Mercedes Benz and went to a brand new mid range auto ... it might be newer, but not necessarily better ...
That said, I think your decision was pretty quick ... It's hard for me to imagine that the 1000 could be that bad ...
But we all have our likes and dislikes, and expectations ...
I am sure you did what is best for you ...
Best of luck with your next 3x ...

PS ... I told you I would have traded my Kn6000 for it !!!

Hi zuki

Your pros / cons comparison is interesting but just a little unfair . You can’t fairly say the absence of styles and features on this keyboard is a con because you are comparing it to a better top of the line keyboard . We all like to get bargains but but come on 🤓.

I wish you joy and happiness in finding the instrument that suits you best .

I think I saw some clips of you playing on YouTube recently . Really enjoyed it . Too busy for me to comment on most postings on the zone but sorry I did not commment earlier .

Best wishes . Worth

Re: PA 1000 thoug - 01/14/18 02:38 AM

I'd say that it takes quite a lot of time to get adjusted to a new keyboard. Plus, all the excitement and wondering "did I make a smart choice or should I get my money back" works like a major distraction, at least, in my case. It took me about a month to get used to PSR-S950's speakers after playing PSR-3000, I even thought that a left one was louder than a right one.

At least, PA1000 is much lighter than PA3X is.

Jim,

You’ve given it a try, but knowing what I know about your love of the Pa3x I was a little surprised you went for a PA1000, but then again you had a PA800 as I recall that you loved. Tony makes a good point with his reference to fully equipped Mercedes.

Yes Worth, you are correct. Not fair for me to diss a beautiful keyboard like the 1000. I should've prefaced by stating these are only personal comments; kind of talking to myself.

I was disappointed at myself for the pent up hype and anticipation of lightening my load, having speakers, etc. I also made the mistake of A/B-ing and it quickly went south from there.

Like I said earlier, I am enamored with the 3X, always will be and cannot see ending my career with a different product.

So, very excitedly, I am retiring my 3X76 to the studio, where it's all set up for marketing purposes. I'll get a 61 note for live play.

OK, someone else take the helm and look like a fool smile

Zuki,...no shame in trying something new.....I can feel your passion for your Korg Pa3x 76......and I understand all the work you out in to make it "YOUR OWN".....its nice unlike eg: Genos that KORG gives you the choice with the same instrument of a Pax76 & Pax61 for studio & stage, should be able to get a 61 at a great price also probably close to the Pa3x61 at this time too........this way you also have an Exact backup to transfer files, settings etc, etc, .....as we all know NEW isn't always better. Good luck with your music. cool2

Zuki ... I don't think anyone feels you are a fool, but I think the 'instant turnaround' took us all by surprise ...
I don't think even Donny has turned a board around that fast ... grin

Funny! I think you are right. But for this kind of money, I have to make a quick decision and unload before too many cobwebs accrue.

Looking ONLY for a 3X 61 keyboard at this time, as the 1000 is sold already.

Thanks Donny. Exactly, makes perfect sense to transfer all the hard work in a "flash", pardon the pun...

Re: PA 1000 thoug - 01/14/18 10:48 AM

Jim can you please qualify your comments regarding auto fill? I still have a PA800 and I agree that the timing and volume of the fills is awkward. But I tried a PA900 in a music store a while back and thought that it was much improved. Really thought they had this issue licked. Thanks!

Re: PA 1000 thoug - 01/14/18 11:05 AM

Hi Ted,

I'd have to play it in length to determine which styles are more suspect to the glitch. I just noticed on several songs and had to already work around some changes - but...it might just be me.
Without dedicated fill buttons, you're at the mercy of this
engaged "fill" button. It annoyed me enough that I disabled it only to find there was no way to "fill" - kinda wierd, IMO.

The 3X is no angel either, but having so long and being careful, I really never have a problem filling and I would miss the 4 fills - awesome feature. Now that I'm thinking, I didn't try the toggle feature on the 1000, but I'm surea it has it? I use that all the time.

I'm extremely critical of everything vs my 3X - so my assessment is probably not fair.

good luck to you
