Re: Don Mason hospitalized - 01/10/18 06:13 PM

I talked with Don about an hour ago. He dodged the big bullet, and the docs have him on meds to stabilize his heart rate. If he remains stable through the night, they will likely send him home tomorrow on the new regiment of medications. If not, then the only other option is a Pacemaker/Defibrillator implant, which is usually very, very effective.

Keeping my finger crossed,

Gary cool

After talking with you last night, Don, I thought that would be the scenario. The good news is the pacemaker/defibrillators of today are extremely effective, the batteries usually last about 5 or more years, and they can be recharged externally, as I explained on the phone.

Re: Don Mason hospitalized - 01/12/18 05:49 AM

John: Your sentiments regarding Mason and our daily routine are "spot on" as our British friends say. He is part of the mix of glue that holds the fabric of this Synth-Zone board together.

Even though the technology has improved on Pacemakers and the medical (operation) procedures are a "path well travelled"... there is always the chance that things might not go the way we desire. For that reason, I pray on Don's behalf.

Regarding his talent (as others have discussed)... Mason could make a Kazoo sound great... LOL! Thank you, John... for keeping him in your thoughts. ----Dave Rice

Best wishes Don! My brother recently had a heart related operation that was successful. He had an irregular heart beat that made him almost lose consciousness when he stood up. A healthful diet and exercise are always beneficial if your doctor recommends it but "slow and easy" is par for the course after recovering from any surgery especially heart surgery.

PS: You don't look too happy in that photo but that new pacemaker should really make a difference and so hopefully you'll be back to your old self very soon.

I just talked with Susan, Don's implant went well this afternoon, he is on his way back to his room and will likely go home tomorrow. The docs tested the pacemaker/defibrillator and said the voltage was right where it should be, which is a good sign.

I'll probably talk with Don tomorrow and post his thoughts, or maybe he will do it himself, which would be even better.

Just got off the phone with Don, he's fine, but probably not going home till tomorrow. Nothing to do with his condition, though. The roads in Shreveport, LA are ice and snow covered today, the temperature is well below freezing, and the cardiologist has not been there to see him yet, and it is 1 p.m.. Welcome back Don! Know you are elated that this is behind you! Take it easy over there and relax while this nasty weather loses its grip on the south!

I haven't been on the forum much, but I saw this a few days ago. Wishing you a quick recovery!

I know what it's like. I stepped on a roll of toilet paper, and they found soft tissue injuries.

Damnit, Mason. I go to the trouble to get sick on a trip, and you JUST HAD to do me one better!

You win, and I'm really hoping you get better, fast. My associate, George, had a pacemaker/defibrillator installed, and it worked GREAT.

Just wish I were healthier and closer.

Re: Don Mason hospitalized - 01/17/18 11:57 AM

Thanks everyone. Had a rather rough night, mainly because one of the new medicines made me ITCH LIKE CRAZY!
I think I know which one and will get a different one.
Mostly napping and resting today. Want to avoid the pain pills if possible.
It's so cold I wouldn't be going out anyway. 11 degrees this morning! New record for this area this time of year. Hot water pipe frozen.
I'm starting to think that if I make it through all this, my wife will kill me anyway. What an angel I have there!

You sure it was the medicine? We warned you to stay away from those young nurses; Blue Ointment should help smile.

Glad you're on the mend.

Glad you're home and on the mend. I had heart surgery a few years back and I never could have made it without my wife's help so they are indeed angels. smile

Wow Don, I am impressed. I have read through these posts twice and I can only repeat what I felt before you got sick --- you are special country boy deserving all the caring and love that you are here on S.Z.

Be well and come back stronger than before. I know that you will come back with a new understanding of life’s priorities; an understanding that will make your life better than before.

Re: Don Mason hospitalized - 01/18/18 06:50 AM

Good Morning, Don:

Be prepared for a "long siege!" The good news is "Mason is above ground"... and all of us who admire him so much are comforted by knowing that. Take baby-steps, exercise patience, enjoy every moment you possibly can. Eventually, full speed ahead... and there won't be any torpedoes!

All the best, ---Dave
