Are my hands to small

Are my hands to small - 12/09/17 10:38 AM

I just can’t make a C major 9th (or most other Major 9ths)
When playing them with the left hand..

Sure i can play the 9th an octave down, that works ...
But it just doesn’t sound as good as with the 9th an octave up ...

Am i the only one with such small hands
Or are others having the same problem..

I have no problem with 9ths.. It feels natural to me.. I guess I have average size hands..

4 or 5 note chords... left hand or right, no problem.

I think it is more about your training, rather then hand size..

Did anyone think about trying BOTH hands?

I have average size hands but I can reach a 10th with my left. What was interesting was ........I can reach that 10th with my right also but NOT as easily as with my left.

It's known that Rachmaninoff had hands the size of hub caps. Look at the complexity of his compositions.

and see.......

What is the average hand span for a pianist

Just how massive was Rachmaninov's hand-span? ...

I will never admit to having small hands (especially to a female).

Interesting read...

Found since i can reach the 9th my 9” spread is average or even slightly above average..
But the span of my 4 fingers (witouth thumb) is under 6” which is slightly below average..

I am jealous at Rachmaninovs 13” spread... i would have loved to see those large hands in action...

I've seen Tower of Power many, many times, and lots of times, I hang out after the show with them. (I got a guy!)
The first time I shook hands with Roger Smith (organist) I swear, it was like a toddler holding his dad's hand!
My entire hand disappeared into his giant, gentle paw. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
I know some real, big guys (I'm a big guy), but this was a new experience. Maybe he's related to Rachmaninoff. Dunno.
