So Why Didn't YOU order a New Genos yet?..... - 12/07/17 05:49 AM

Too expensive for your budget? You can afford it but don't think it is worth the price? Don't like the way it sounds for your needs? Want a 61 key arranger instead of 76? Need onboard speakers? Don't like the design or color? Want a tilt up display? Waiting for the less costly MOTL arrangers to come to market? Like other brands sound, features instead? Think it's just a pimped out Tyros 5? Just disappointed wishing it's was something different when it was released? Going in a different direction with your music? To lazy to learn a NEW OS coming from a different brand kB? Waiting for Genos2? Wife will kill you if you ever spent 5k on a hobby lol? I need to have the latest & greatest at any cost always? I want bragging rights with my fellow musicians? Ive owned every model since Yamaha made arrangers and don't want to break the chain now?
If there's anything I left out please list it here Yay or Nay as we all benefit from other opinions?......

Nope, not too expensive and well worth the price.

Don't like the way it sounds for your needs?

Nope, sounds fantastic.

Want a 61 key arranger instead of 76?

Nope, doesn't make a bit of difference.

Need onboard speakers?

Nope, I have lots of amps around here.

Don't like the design or color?

Nope, basic black works just fine.

Want a tilt up display?

Nope, not required with super twist - I can see it from any angle.

Waiting for the less costly MOTL arrangers to come to market?

Nope, see question one.

Like other brands sound, features instead?

Nope, I personally, still love those yammies.

Think its just a pimped out Tyros 5?

Nope, it's definitely not a T5 by a long shot.

Just disappointing wishing its was something different when it was released?

No disappointments after watching all those demos.

Going in a different direction with your music?

Nope, just gonna stay retired for now, then die. wink

Donny ...
1) I would not make a decision based on demo vids ...
2) For ME, it is cost prohibitive ...
3) I personally do not feel a need to 'test drive' one, as my Pa900 more than fills my needs ...
But that's me ... I'm sure it is right for others ...

Totally overpriced as compared to other top of the line arrangers on the market.

Boats are overpriced, and continue to cost you more during the entire time you own them - I should know, I've owned more boats than keyboards. In additional to slip fees, winter storage and maintenance, if you really want to go big time, you can join a yacht club and really blow some hard cash. smile

Fishing tackle is overpriced - got lots of that too. I just gave my son a 12-weight saltwater fly rod and reel that cost nearly as much as a Genos. I'm too old to do that stuff anymore. Carol says I'm too old to do a lot of stuff anymore.;)

Golf is a VERY expensive hobby, keyboards are chump change in comparison to country club memberships and greens fees in this part of the world. Last time I checked, a decent golf cart went for about $3,500 plus batteries.

Now, how about ridiculously overprices - cars, mini-vans, pickup trucks, SUVs - Even used they tend to be way overpriced.

Exercise equipment, wow! All those climber/stepper/treadmill combinations cost a fortune, and their targeted audiences, the way the commercials appear, are young people. Old farts like us wouldn't last 2 minutes on one of those expensive contraptions.

But what the Hell do I know - I'm just an old fart! smile

Got to agree.

When you can get a 76 PA4X for likely under $3,900, it’s hard for me to justify the cost of Genos. FWIW, from what I’ve seen of demos, I’m really wondering if the Genos is as good as the 4X?

Perhaps I’ll get a chance to play one...that might change my mind. That said, if the Genos was as much keyboard for the money as was my S970, I’d order one. Right now I’m not seeing that.

One other thing.

For the folks who love playing Yamaha, and ordered a Genos, I would think that’s great. I’m sure that Genos will give owners years of enjoyment.

For me, I’m still at the point of justifying the cost as a business expense. And, my 4X appears to be a better investment both in capabilities and cost. But like I said, I haven’t played a Genos.

Don, Tx for the info.

Re: So Why Didnt you order a New Genos yet?..... - 12/07/17 11:34 AM

In reality, the only way you could justify it as a business expense would be if the keyboard would generate additional income. If not, then it's a waste of money, business wise.

Actually i never buy akeyboard in the first 6 months after release

- because they are cheaper after 6 months as you get better deals
- they are more reliable
- it gives me time to make a good assesment wether a new key is worth it

If i decide to buy a Genos, it will not only because of Genos, but also because of a 3rd party application called V-comsole that allos for a much better integration between Kronos and the arranger, then possible with any stand alone program...

But in the end, i am still wayting for that 88 key arranger workstation...with real workstation features.

Ohh......Yes, I got my Genos a few weeks ago, and it has been a blast....my audience did NOTICE the change and they tell me that they love it....

Each one of us, with all the respect, it is how well we feel about our own instrument and if you are happy, that is it. If you are all set with brand X, good for you, or W or Z...is fine.

I know lots of people that have purchase a Great Grand piano or an expensive furniture that no body seat on it, just to collect dust, because looks pretty, good for them, I did not pay for it, so......

I know that the sound of the Genos is unique, no other keyboard sounds like that...and I like it a lot, well, good for me, and that is why I got one and I am happy.

my 2 cents.

I am at the point of waiting until after Winter NAMM... January 25th week-end. Only 7 weeks away. By then, I'll have the money saved from a few sound gigs. I may have the chance to actually play one in person. Also, after the NAMM show, Yamaha may have some B-Stock Genos available. Save even more money.

Would love to keep the Pa4X but there may not be room for both. Plus I could use the money from the sale of the Kong Pa4x-61 to make it hurt less!

Hi

Being a mediocre musician - playing for fun and at home only - and a poor singer - I have never used the vocal harmony in my previous keyboards - I decided in 2014 to go for a PSR S750.

And this suits me fine!

Re: So Why Didnt you order a New Genos yet?..... - 12/09/17 01:42 AM

If Yamaha had not increased the price for T5 just before Genos came, and the difference to the other comparable was not that high, I would have bought Genos right away.
Right now Genos is a few dollars cheaper than T5, believe it or not, but still about 25% more expensive than other comparable TOTLs like Korg and Ketron.
To me, it's not so much about the money, but about the principles.
I simply refuse to be "a stupid milk cow" for Yamaha.
So, I either keep T4 and add a PA4X-76, or wait to see if Yamaha comes to terms with its pricing policy here in Norway.
Time will show.

Re: So Why Didn't YOU order a New Genos yet?..... - 12/10/17 01:24 PM

I've been spending some time writing down some arguments, why I do not want Genos... admiting that I still love the idea of Genos, but not the Genos itself... , then I had to admit to myself that the more arguments I find, the more obvious my obsession gets.

Well, for now I maneged to convince myself that it's actually good for me that I want it not being able to afford it - even if I sell my car (not gonna do it)... It's always better to be focused on reaching something than on escaping something (well, philosophie is a form of denial as well).

So far I have two things to say, which seem to me quite solid. First, switching from PSR-3000 to PSR-S950 (with some external influence) 4 years ago didn't help me to become a better lyricist (sounds lame, but still), yet I did record with it a whole lot of stuff and I know that by that time PSR-3000 started to loose its charm. Now I need to find a good lyricist (I don't need a bad one because I have myself) who will use the stuff I made for songs, we will sell it and I'll get my Genos.

Second, and it's important. There're a lot of people who will never know what to do with any keyboard, including Genos. They have their own things to enjoy. Giving that I fail to enjoy tons of things, there's nothing rediculous in spending extra cash on a thing which will be actually used and appreciated. Still, there are instruments in the market which are much more about "the idea" than Genos, which is really about playing it quite a lot.

I know I'll be going back and forth.
Posted by: Bernie9

Re: So Why Didn't YOU order a New Genos yet?..... - 12/10/17 02:19 PM

In addition, I would say that anyone who would pay that kind of money for an instrument and not play it much has too much money. However, there are many who dream of sounding like the pros doing the demos, but haven't the fortitude, perseverance, or talent to reach anywhere near their goal. In the second category, if they get much enjoyment from the endeavor, it is worth it. Your case is more like us in that you are already a musician of sorts and want a tool to enhance your skills. I am always looking for ways to do this, but the instrument itself seldom is the magic catalyst unless you have such a basic instrument that it does not provide the necessary tools.

Many of us here, including myself, have top of the line instruments and have had the necessary means build into their boards for some time, and, are pros at their trade. Yet, the Genos beckons with all of their marketing hype, but the new sounds and features are a source of doubt about whether or not they have the best for them. Some will say "no way will I spend that kind of money when it will likely not earn them any more money. However, some like myself would get it if it somehow offered more than my present keyboards. So far, I haven't been convinced.
