Korg update OS 2.0.1 - 08/01/17 09:10 AM

Korg has issued an update for the new OS. It corrects three small bugs that appeared in the new 2.0 OS.
You must have 2.0 installed before installing 2.1.
Thanks Korg!

I don't know what it is or why I ever got rid of my first Pa4x but I have been playing the heck out this new Pa4x lately. Honestly I lost interest in playing my S970 for whatever reasons, I think I played it 3 or 4 times all last year it would just lay in the corner as I got involved in many other projects. But this Pa4x 2.01 just makes you wanna play the hell out of it as it offers so much to the player in many facets to create music. It's just such a fun unit to play and sing with. I know many of you will laugh but as Don M said a while back "This may be my Last arranger keyboard"

Yes yes we all have our faults frown ....but at least I never became a gear hoarder and have stuff all over the house that I never use, dump it or sell it I say,....for me if if don't use it its gone and that's a good thing. I know too many old friends who hoard and die leaving the wife stuck with getting rid of all their crap..and usually at ridiculous prices just to get rid of it all and make some room.....sad..

But i do understand what he means... what more can one wish for? A traditional arranger does not get much better then the pa4x...

Re: Korg update OS 2.1 - 08/10/17 01:54 PM

I'm not a gear hoarder. If I were, I would still have a B3 smile.
I don't keep everything, but I do keep stuff I like because I can. I'm lucky enough not to have to sell something to buy something else. If I do happen to die before my wife, it matters not a whit (financially) whether she gets a good price for my stuff or GIVES it away. In fact, I've made arrangements to donate it to a suitable charity when I go, anyway. I also don't "have stuff all over the house". All of my toys are on the 'terrace level' (aka basement). I think the rest of my house is rather tastefully decorated (I can send you pictures of the interior if you like so that you can stop worrying about my poor wife having to 'make some room'). Although our house is probably overkill for our needs, 'making room' will be the least of her worries. So you see Donny, what's "sad" for you can be very pleasurable for other people. No 'one size fits all' here, right?

BTW, I just met a new incredible jazz guitarist who lives just 15 minutes from me. This guy is 68 yrs old and his playing is mind-blowing, very George Benson-ish. We got together last Sunday to jam and I'm still in disbelief that a guy like this is just living here quietly in retirement. The reason I bring it up is that he told me that the beautiful Gibson he carefully removed from it' case was purchased by him about 30+ years ago. The tone was heavenly and I'm guessing he'll go to his final resting place with that same guitar. Sometimes you just keep things because you like them. Ask Fran smile.

Your best buddy,

chas smile smile

Yeah, I guess they changed a lot since his last one smile (I believe he purchased this one prior to the new update). Hey Bachus, don't worry. Donny knows I'm just pulling his chain smile.

Closer I get to retirement, the less I spend! We've thrown boat loads into the house (new cement driveway, kitchen, water heater, landscaping the beach area, etc, etc). My 276K miles Prius is on borrowed time.

The PA800 to the 3X was great, not so much of an advantage to the 4X.

Maybe one day, but I want more studio stuff first.

zuki ... I'm not trying to be crass about this, but just asking - are you looking for studio stuff for self-gratification, or something that might bring in more gigs and therefore more $$$ ?

You can check what version you have first if not Install v.2 first......then v2.01.....read install instructions first....

Good luck

Re: Korg update OS 2.1 - 08/26/17 01:58 PM

Thanks DNJ for the reply. Is KAOSS only on the Pa4x or is it included in the new OS 2.1 and can it be added to the Pa3x (I might be wrong on this one)? And one last question; I have the chance to either purchase the Korg 3aX or a Yamaha s970. Any suggestions on choosing between the 2? Thanks very much for your help. This forum is much friendlier than other forums I have visited (not in Synth Zone).

Re: Korg update OS 2.1 - 08/26/17 02:16 PM

KAOSS is only on the PA4X, starting with OS2.0. It can not be added to the 3x. I had the S970 and PA3X at the same time and the Korg is far more advanced (my opinion of course). I can't think of much that the 970 does better than the 3X. It is not even smaller, though a couple pounds lighter in weight.
Short list of pluses for the 3X:
Wonderful vocal harmonizer
MANY programmable sliders, buttons, etc.
Songbook feature.
Conventional power cable (no wall wart)
XLR mic input
Multiple outputs.
Joy stick as opposed to wheels.
Touch Strip
Ability to use inexpensive FC5 foot controller, plus pedal, plus switch.
Chord Sequencer
Dual Music/Sequence Player
Full size keys and far better key feel.
Periodic new styles and sounds FREE from Korg.
Choice of 61 or 76 notes.
Phantom Power if needed.
There are many more, but it isn't really fair comparing top of the line Korg to middle of line Yamaha. The 970 has some great styles and sounds.

Re: Korg update OS 2.1 - 08/26/17 02:29 PM

Kaoss is included in the new update 2.01 Only on the Pa4x...it's really amazing to use with styles. Im learning more with it every day...
Imo the Pa3x will offer you many more
pro features then the S970 of which I just got rid of and will not look back,....

Good luck

Just my 2 pennies worth, I’d go with the Pa3x. I have an S970, had a Pa3x and now the PA4x. If someone put a gun to my head and said “you can only have the Pa3x or the S970” it would be the Pa3x I keep. Both are great boards but there’s just something about playing live with the Pa3x that works better.
