PA 4X...As a Songwriting Partner - 03/11/16 10:24 AM

Hey all,

On a Songwriter Forum there were 3 writers working on a song I had suggested they move on from. I basically told them it was what "it was". It was theatrical in nature, and they wanted it Praise & Worship. I couldn't hear it or see it at all....I told them point blank, move onto the next tune. Little did I know I would soon be part of the process and in a co-write.

One writer made a change which made me hear some things. I asked permission to take a stab at the song. I gutted the Chords for practically every part of the song & changed the melody. The Chorus was kind of there, but it needed something. Never written with 3 other writers, let alone people I have never met in person before. I know them only through emails and the Songwriter Forum.

It helps to have my PA 4X as an Arranger partner to get the initial idea down quickly and easily.

Then I can add parts to make it sound more organic....

Nice job on the collaboration....my 2 cents is IMO this song is screaming for an underlying B3 slow leslie......
then let it rip on the chorus at 3:55 to end. headphone

I agree....Actually I went there before the strings, but I was afraid I would do a cheesy organ part as I don't play organ....And I would get called out on it....LOL...So I went with the strings which I knew I could pull off

I'll revisit it for sure, cause that is what I heard too

I think it is great, and would suggest you keep toying with it a little. Try that B3 but maybe sparingly, less is more.

Be bless

Steve ... it sounds really good ... it would be interesting to hear what it sounded like before you took it on, and also to know what your fellow collaborators thought of it ...

I may be overstepping my bounds here, but perhaps you and Don (KORG80) should collaborate on something as he also writes Contemporary Christian music ...

Arrangers are a great tool, for quickly composing/rearranging a song... Or just working out a mellody and some chords...

The amazing thing is not a single co-writer has once brought up the fact I adamently told them to move on from the song....
