I hope your enjoying it Mucho as well..

Thanx for sharing your work keys

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/08/16 01:54 PM

Didn't feel up to the modulation. I did start it a key low, with intention of going up, but I decided not to do it.
I usually do. Start in Bb and go up to C.
I am very well pleased at this point!

Congrats with the new PA4X. Sounds great, so do the vocal harmonizer.
Always been a big fan of your way of playing and singing Don. Relaxing and sounds nice in my ears.
Sadly it was not possible to download to add to the "Don M album" for use in our motorhome.

Keep'em coming! clap

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/08/16 02:23 PM

Nice sounding board and voice.

How about steel guitar?

Yamaha has this Hawaiian guitar(steel sounding)that I employ time and again...just great for country.

PA 4X have anything like that?

Haven't found a good one yet, but I will work on it. Love the PedalAmp Steel on S970. I can edit to make one. The new Dobro on 4X is pretty good.
It has a slow pedal steel that is great for background, but it's not the faster lead type sound I like.

+1 on that, Gunnar ...

Don, you are a true song stylist ... you sing it as you feel it, not always true to the melody line, and it sounds great ...
Love the KB work - DonM playing PIANO !!! , and as always the guitar emulations sound great ...

Don,

Good stuff.

Still I haven't heard that lush Yamaha pedal steel in any PA 4X recordings as of yet. That seems to be the main thing missing for me in Korg.

Had the PA 4X have a steel guitar that would blow me away as does my Yamaha Tyros 4 and PSR S970, I would probably jump.

If I could edit to get that Yamaha pedal steel to get that sound on a PA 4X.....

Thanks, Donny ... a few reasons ... I'm not pushing for the work as much - I don't NEED it, and I play enough to keep me happy; a lot of 'young bloods', performing for less, singing to tracks with a wireless mic, 'schmoozing' with all the elderly ladies (let's face it- they would rather have a 30 or 40 something schmooze to them than a 74 year old laugh2 ; and a number of gigs with the female vocalist where even I sing to tracks, and I don't even need a KB ...

I am still trying to get a gig at a nice restaurant ... it seems that in the past year more upscale places are having live entertainment on 'off' nights - Wednesday or Thursday - but even there, there's a LOT of really good young talent around here ... guys doing Buble and Sinatra tributes, with all the mannerisms, etc. ... of course, singing to tracks ...

...which begs the question, 'unless you're a really accomplished keyboardist, how much of a return are you getting for dragging along a $2-4000.00 keyboard (assuming the focus of your act is the vocals). How much more money would that "good young talent" get if they were using arrangers instead of 'tracks', especially if the arrangers were being used mostly to play SMF's? Just asking; is all that 'latest/greatest' hi-tech gear for you or the audience? I don't know if I've ever seen a top-notch 'Pro' with gear that was under 5 years old; usually older. just sayin'.

Donny, I'll vouch for Tony about the young players players doing Buble and Sinatra tributes, you know we live within 20 minutes of eachother. For a small state or should I say a state the size of a county there is lots of talent per square mile RI=1212 square miles, my wife and I are spending the winter in Marion County Florida 1663 square miles and population density is not nearly as high here as it is in Rhode Island.

I've seen the same with 30-40 year old males singing to backing tracks. Sometime ago I was at an entertainer's showcase. A 30 something year old guy never sang a gig in his life was talked into going and singing by his friend who was a busy entertainer. This 30 year old had a nice voice but had never played a gig in his life. I guess when the lady ADs took a look and heard him sing a few hired him. Not sure the guy was giving a BS story or not but also claimed he never had a music of voice lesson in his life.

Singing to tracks is one thing, .....CREATING and Recording & arranging your OWN tracks is where the magic lies..and this is where most don't have the talent to do so and it shows believe me..

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/08/16 06:15 PM

Don, just got a chance to listen to the songs you posted - pretty darned good for a country boy. Some really good right hand licks, especially when you get countryfied. wink I suspect you had your shorts tightened with a pair of vice grips when you did I'll Always Love You, though. You have a bit of a bull frog voice, just like I do, and hitting those high notes, at least for me, is too much of a challenge these days, especially with shot to hell lungs. Well young man, it's time to stop buyin' keyboards and making big bucks with what you have - your talents.

All the best,

Gary cool

Liked all of the songs. But, the guitar solo on Jambalaya sounded like Brent Mason. Don doesn’t need a guitar player. Nice work in showing the PA4X.

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/08/16 10:00 PM

You guys are very kind! Thanks! I am enjoying the new board more and more each night. I found most of the guitars in the STS (OTS in Yamaha language) have way too much processing and effects for my taste. The ones straight out of the sound banks sound better for most of the stuff I do.
I did a ton of Elvis songs tonight, since it would have been his 81st birthday. None of the women threw underwear at me, but other than that it seemed to go over well. smile

Hi Don

Absolutely enthralling and first rate. You must be a blessed man with your missus on the mend and the new PA4X. Almost regret now that I did not keep mine smile
Seriously though I am amazed at the speed with which you already have made it your working gear. I think you'd better get used to the idea that this one is going to be around for quite some time now before being tempted to buy any more gear other than an extension the PA4X. Good luck my friend!

regards,
John

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/09/16 05:06 PM

Don: You sound great as usual, but you sounded great on the 970 as well. But please Don...don't give Donny any ideas. For the price of the 4x he could by a 2nd 970 for a backup. I think Gary would even say that makes good fiscal sense! (Or is it cents)

smile Bitchin and moanin - that what DNJ does about every arranger keyboard he has ever owned. I could have bought a much larger boat with the money he has spent on keyboard since I've known him, but I wouldn't tell him that. wink

All the best,

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/14/16 12:12 AM

Great sound, great vocal, and as always great playing Don! Will the songbook list from the PA3X play the same on PA4X, without any editing? Or did they change locations on styles and sounds in the 4X?
Thanks
Skude

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/14/16 07:34 AM

Thanks Skude,
I started over on the Songbook. Styles are omitted, locations changed, etc. Didn't seem worth it to me.

Re: PA4X recordings - 01/15/16 01:41 AM

Thanks Don!
I only use my own songbook list, so at the moment I'm not yet ready to do all the work over again. But you never know.....
