The power of registrations... - 10/31/15 05:29 PM

This information was posted on the PSR-Tutorial site my Marcel, one of it's contributing members. Thought I would share it with the good folks here:

-- All Song and Song Setting Parameters
-- All Song and Song Creator settings
-- All Style Creator settings
-- All Microphone settings for EQ, Noise Gate, and Compressor
-- All MFC10 Midi functions

(* with this, you can set it so that your next Registration
will "stop" the Accompaniment)

(** allows you to turn Voice, Effect, EQ, or Harmony either "On"
or "Off" for R1, R2, R3, and L, thus retaining or preventing the
former settings and parameters. Useful in creating new Registrations
from valued ones, among other things.)

(*** these store only in User Effect and in Song File. Without them,
you will most likely only have "Default" effects. A serious software
blunder. )

(**** I believe this means that you can store "Upper Octave" in a
Registration and when you change to a different bank it will change
the Octave.)

All of this information can be found on the Tyros Data List. It
takes a bit of study, but it's worth reading.

NOTE: IF SOMETHING "SHOULD" STORE, but still doesn't, then you need
to look at the Voice Set Group and be sure there is a "check" mark
next to it. For example, without a check mark next to "Effects," no
effects will store into a Registration. (And without a check mark
next to "Song," some of the other checked settings will not store
into your recorded Song.)

Hi Gary , thanks so much for sharing this information with us all.
I'm using with my acoustic midi accordion via music tech transmitter and receiver a PSR3000 keyboard that has been made specially for me into a module ....I'm really enjoying the freedom this set up allows me to walk /stroll ...no midi cable attached to the accordion !! I'm really impressed by the Yamaha operating setup and the ease of use of the registrations !!and the great sounds and the vast amount of styles available .
Question ;- is it possible to save a particular multi pad setting into a registration ....ie piano boogie woogie player ?

I believe you can, but I have never tried doing this. Give it a try and let us know if it works.

All the best,

Make sure you learn all of this and set everything right on the money this is important for your audience. In 50 years you'll have it all perfect if you don't buy a new keyboard every 3 or 4 months, eh? Ha ha ha! So funny. Gary if you take this personal. I'll never never go fishing with you again, nor sailing. LOL

It's simply why some of us are able to keep our jobs.

There still is a lot that does not store in registrations, the way i use them midi and vocal harmony parameters should definately be possible to save...

You got a point. Now if Yamaha would allow registrations to be saved to the MFD would be a real plus. No matter what registrations along with the MFD do the job for me.

Re: The power of registrations... - 11/01/15 01:20 PM

I know players that use up to 8 registration for ONE SONG!!! does anyone do this...?
that seems a bit weird to me as I only use 1 per song and let my fingers do the magic with the on deck buttons ....

Re: The power of registrations... - 11/01/15 01:23 PM

When I had a PSR S950, I used one BANK per song. That way that are automatically alphabetized. I use the first button to load the song setting, then push FREEZE and the only thing the other seven buttons do is call up my favorite sounds.

Re: The power of registrations... - 11/01/15 01:39 PM

Eddie Shoemaker also uses a bunch of registrations per bank, all for a single song. I just use one registration per bank per song. Different strokes.

Bachus, could you explain what you mean about saving midi and vocal harmony information. The mic settings can be saved, But, I'm not quite sure you mean about the midi information. You can save a pre-recorded midi file and access it via the registration.

I have used 8 registration buttons for one song, but it was overkill for my use. I now use the MFD to choose the tunes then use the registrations for favorite and tweaked voices.
