The new PSR S670 - 05/05/15 09:46 PM

Looks like Yamaha is gearing up to replace the S series keyboards.

Good find, Deane. Quite likely this one replaces the PSR-S650...I suspect the other new models will have the "70" in their name as well; PSR-S970, PSR-S770, etc..

It looks to have Fingered On-Bass which is a good sign indeed, but no dedicated MIDI ports.

There are a lot more arps in the multi-pads, and new styles seem to be mostly in the World and Dance & R&B sections.

Looks wise, it appears to be a bit chunkier than current models.

No 5-pole MIDI connections - would be an absolute no-go for me. I can't take such an instrument serious. The DGX 630/640 doesn't have them either, we have it in our church, no way to connect any modules (USB doesn't work directly). If I want to play a good piano sound, I have to bring my own master keyboard or MoXF.

Even though it has a smaller screen than the 750 and 950 it does add the same function buttons like the higher end arrangers and I'm thrilled to see stereo outputs (the 650 only has headphone jack). The polyphony has also been bumped up to 129. I called Yamaha today and there is no price for this model yet or even any news about this yet but if these manuals are available for download than my guess is we will see them rolled out at the Summer NAMM show. I'm hoping the price point will be around $799.00 MAP. It will compete beautifully with the Korg PA300 which also doesn't have any stereo outputs and sells for $849.

they might indeed show this at summer Namm...

Which would also indicate that again we might not see a Motif replacement.. Its rumored to have advanced arps, which essentially are equall to a single track of a Yamaha style.. In the new Motif you can freely combine up to 16 tracks..
On top of that it will have advanced voices, which can be as much as an Sa2 voice, or an Organ world voice, or just a virtuall synthesizer. ...
And many many more advanced features, finally upgrading Yamaha to modern days hardware... Which eventually also will find their way to all the other instrument lines.. Seems it has allready been shown to resellers at the musik messe in a backroom.

I don think they will present both these at a summer NAMM, so its either the new arrangers or the New Motif line..

An instrument without 5-pole midi connections is made for the living room and definitely not for any kind of stage.

No, it will be part of the midrange series of Yamaha... The current midrange series are Psr S650, S750, S950... The entry level are the E series like PSR E340

Which means that if this keyboard will be shown at Summer namm, most likely they will also show the replacements of the S750 and S950

when I see it I'll believe it at this point......they better hurry before the SD7 takes a big
chunk of the pie from yamaha.

All Yamaha's present mid-range series instruments (S950, S750) are clearly intended as "home keyboards" first, with, of course, many pro (stage) players taking advantage of the high feature per cost ratio.

The PSR-S670 will be on the bottom rung of the new "70" mid-range series...quite likely to be called PSR-S970, PSR-S770, etc.

I would consider the SD-7 a home keyboard as well.

So...

It seems like the arrangers have not reached the end of their cycle as many of you insisted.

Just saying...

I believe Arranger Keyboards will stay at a basic level; in other words, they will still use styles (auto-accompaniment) which defines what they are.

If you can get into style editing, the instrument won't grow old so quickly. I know several players still using Tyros2's and PSR-3000's and have no intention of upgrading, mainly because they have learned to edit and re-assemble styles.

The Audya is another example of an arranger than could be considered a long-term investment.

I must say, I'm very happy with the level of my Tyros4, and it would take quite a lot to tempt me into buying anything else...in spite of having the T4 for a few years now and playing it extensively everyday, I'm still on the honeymoon.

The design looks great indeed, they should stick to it for the whole series 770 and upcomming 970. With a bigger and collor screen...

But when you look inside the box, the upgrade compared to the 650 is fairly minimalistic..
