Ebay and PayPal

Ebay and PayPal - 01/16/15 06:16 AM

I sold my SD1 on Ebay last week. The buyer didn't pay at first and asked for the transaction to be canceled. I started the buyer didn't pay process on Ebay and lo and behold I get notice from PayPal that the buyer paid and it is ok to ship. PayPal says my funds are pending and I get a message from the buyer asking for a partial refund of 90%. Is this some kind of a scam? PayPal says the money is pending and it is ok to ship. Should I ship. I'm not going to give any partial refund. What should I do?

Agree with Donny. Also, if you do not do a transaction through ebay and use PayPal, you are on your own to try to collect.....there is no protection outside of Ebay. Sickening, as I got really burned once.

REMEMBER...Paypal is crap (FOR THESELLER)...as if the buyer opens a incident...and wins,,,,they can come to you and get $$ from your paypal account.
Even if you transfer the $$ from Paypla to your account...they put a neg balance on you...then you owe paypal.

If it is lagit...he will loose 10%.
But if some how he gets paypal to give a refund you owe total.

One thing for sure,,,,IF you ship....get a photo of the SN and be sure it is on the e-bay listing OR a e-mail to buyer ALL through e-bay messages...DO nothing outside of e-bay itself.

He might have a bad on, complain it is not as advertised....do a swap when he returns it.

Good luck.

Sounds like a scam. Be very careful.

To many ways to get scammed on EBay if your not careful.

I have sold all my equipment on Craigslist, and deal locally, and no problems. I've had people that have driven 90 miles to pick up a keyboards.

No shipping hassles, and "Cash on the barrel head".

I've had numerous transactions on Ebay and using Paypal with no problems. You do have to be careful, but you usually easily identify a scam attempt.

Don't do anything until it is confirmed that the money is in your account. You can get a personal confirmation by phone. Did that when I sold a B3 to a guy in the Netherlands.

Having my own trouble with an Ebay sale. Sold a set of Roland Bass Pedals. Buyer contacts me for a refund and says three of the pedals don't work. This is a no refund sale but I get concerned since I tested them before packing and tell him to make sure they are on a flat surface and if you look inside there is a contact adjustment screw for each pedal. Maybe they got banged around in shipping. Gets back to me and says he tried what I said but one pedals still doesn't work. I feel bad for the guy so I send him a return shipping tag.
Got the pedals back today and they work perfectly !!!! So much for being a nice guy.
I still haven't refunded his money and Ebay says they will block him from my sales and put a watch on him which may result in him getting kicked off Ebay. They also suggested I ask him to agree to a partial refund. I'm going to have to think this over. I've always trusted people and have been lucky in 147 transaction on Ebay but I guess there's always a first time.

Plus one for Craigslist!! LIke Jerry I have sold for CASH ONLY thru Craigslist. I've met the buyers in a pizza parlor, Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread, at the entrance to Home Depot, the parts department of Balise Auto a large regional dealership, a bank building lobby where I used to work, my latest sale was in the customer service area of a Super Stop & Shop supermarket. I only sold a T2 thru E-bay and had sweaty palms during the entire 5 day start to finish transaction.

Problem with Cragislist is your limitied by distance as to how many buyers you can attract. Something with a small buyer group like my Bass Pedals is tough. Had good luck with Craigslist but sometimes you have to go National.

I don't think he's a scammer. I think it is buyers remorse. He said he should have been more careful because he now realizes it's not what he wanted. He's Asian and his English doesn't appear to be very good. I would have let him out of the buy but then he paid.

As an IT guy, i have become very distrustfull (with knowledge) against people on the internet..

Thats why i only stell stuff to people that can come and pick it up and pay me cash... The Netherlands is a small country with a lot of people, and this strategy works perfect for me
