How to get a Lucas Nano 600 in USA? - 08/08/14 05:46 AM

Hi - I'm in the USA, and it seems that the HK Lucas Nano 600 powered speaker system is not avail in the USA. Does anyone know of a way to acquire one for shipment into the US (legally etc.)? Also, if I bought (for example) from UK or somewhere in Europe, I assume I'd have to be concerned about the A/C power since USA is 120V/60Hz and Europe/UK is different?

I'm not SURE yet that I want a Lucas Nano 600, but it's tempting ...
Thanks for any info/advice on how to get one in the USA,
Jim

Talk to Frank..

I would say after owning two Nano 300's that the New HK Nano 600 should be an amazing sounding system especially for Arranger KB use !! keys ...keep us posted after you get yours..

Hi - already checked with Frank. He can't get 'em. They are not being sold/distributed in the US. I was hoping to find another way (such as via a Europe or UK supplier that ships to US?)

Thanks - will try that. At first, it kept pointed me to KORG USA, which apparently handles HK for the USA. I had already contacted KORG USA, and they cannot get the Nano 600. So, I have written to UK in Germany to see what they say ...

Thanks for the idea,
Jim

The last time I looked, Germany was using 220/240 VAC power, so this means that the 600 purchased from them would have to be modified to run on 110/120 VAC in the US.

Thomann is Europe's largest online music store. I guess they normally don't deliver to the US, but it's worth trying. Did you check the specs about voltage?
[Edit:] Gary was quicker regarding voltage...

BTW, I'm just coming from a band rehearsal, in which we also tested various of my speaker systems, mainly the HK Lucas Nano 300 and the db technologies K300, which I bought recently. They are small and a pair weighs no more than the Nano 300: 11 kilograms.
I had to play 'against' a drummer with these. At first we just used the Nano 300. Everyone was amazed how much power it had. No problem playing with the drummer (I play left hand bass and various sounds with the right hand). the singer also used the Nano 300 input.
Then, I switched to the pair of db K300 speakers. We were all absolutely thrilled by them!!! They don't have any deep bass of course, but otherwise sounds like piano, e-piano or brass sound spectacular with them, very loud and very clear. Apart from the subwoofer bass, they beat the Nano 300 by far.
Then we used db K300 and Nano300 in combination. Absolutely fantastic. The great, great clear mids and highs of the K300 and the subwoofer of the Nano 300 were a dream team.
So, if you don't need an extreme amount of bass, I would surely prefer this combination to one Lucas Nano 600.

You can try musicstore.de they ship to the US
and most speakers now have 110-220 auto transformer but you can email them and ask them, one thing I don't understand? there are so many good speakers to choose here in the US? why would you get these? 120Watts? and a lot to ship and just the speaker 330 euro? that's a lot of money, anyhow good luck!

I think you mixed up the Nano 600 specs with the db K300, which I just suggested as a complement to a Nano 300.
regarding the db K300 I assumed that these might be available in the US.
The K300 price of 330€ for 120 Watts: well, the pair is 660€ for 240 Watts, which is pretty much the same ratio as the Nano 300 and therefore not too expensive. And I've learned not to completely trust wattage data, even if it is RMS.. The speakers sounded nearly as strong (and clearer) as the JBL Eon 510, which are rated 280 Watts.
But I admit Nano 600 would probably be easier to set up and still as a rather low weight, but soundwise I would recommend the combination Nano 300 + db K300 for the sake of very clear mid frequencies e.g.for brilliant piano sound.

Re: How to get a Lucas Nano 600 in USA? - 08/10/14 05:30 AM

Thanks for all the info … fyi, the Nano 600 is not 120W, I think it's 430Watts. When I mentioned 120 I was talking about US voltage (United States A/C power being 120V/60Hz power). Yes there are plenty of great speakers avail in the US, and I have several of them … I just like the Nano "form factor" and thought the Nanao 600 might be great for certain kinds of situations. They are not a "must-have" for me, but if I wanted them, I was hoping to find a way to get them …

Thanks again for the ideas/suggestions etc.!

I'm not real happy with the piano sounds on my PA3x. So......why does correct amplification "make a piano patch sound better in the mid-range?" Zuki mentioned that in a recent post also. I understand how frequency response works, I just don't understand the speaker/piano sound interaction?

P.S. I like the way you review equipment.....very thorough and very descriptive.

Re: How to get a Lucas Nano 600 in USA? - 08/13/14 05:18 AM

I can't explain this in any scientific way, I just think the frequencies between 200 and maybe 2000 Hz seem to be very important for piano waveforms to be fully transmitted. And if you look at how the speakers are designed, it isn't surprising that two db K300 speakers deliver more mid frequencies than a system like the Nano 300 or Bose Compact. The K300 have two 6.5 inch speakers each, whereas the Nano 300 has a subwoofer for very low frequencies and two 3.5 inch speakers with an emphasis on high frequencies. So I guess the K300 put more emphasis on the mid range.

Re: How to get a Lucas Nano 600 in USA? - 08/13/14 12:54 PM

Hi - I'm hoping that the Nano 600 will be better in this area. The Nano 600 is different than the 300 in that its "tops" (small/satellite speakers) have 2 speakers, I think a 4.5" midrange and a 1" tweeter. So I'm hoping that the Nano 600 will have better sound balance (and more power) as compared to the Nano 300.

We'll have to see how it fares when people start buying and reviewing the Nano 600 ...
