JBL 515XT.. - 08/06/14 01:15 PM

I started building a larger system based on a Yamaha DXR 15 then DXR 12. I was doing this for my wife and I as well as a music hall that I'm doing bookings for.

Then I read that JBL 515XT's are being sold on the net for $350.
The price(and reviews were) was just too good. I ordered two.

I owned one Yamaha DXR 12, new, not used, which I would now not use. The local music store, where I bought my DXR from, agreed to take back the speaker in trade for a Peavey FX2 16 channel. This is a combo analog/digital mixer...lots of cool functions.

The Peavey FX2 mixers are new so it's been a bit of a gamble and my recollection of Peavey is that Peavey = low quality.

But our local music store seems to think Peavey has upped their game a bit...we'll see.

And re: the JBL's...

Truth is, I don't think the JBL's are in the class of the Yamaha DXR's but the JBL's are good, half the price of the DXR's and I can use them, along with the Peavey mixer, for our gigs and the Opera house.

So, we'll see how it goes.

I haven't done this much with PA systems for years...sort of making my head swim...but it's fun.

Thing is, I'm finding, there really aren't any newer bad systems out there like in the older days. Just depends on what works for you.

Take care all.

Funny you should post that today. I've been mulling over PA choices for awhile and even saying to myself "just use what you have" but we're never satisified, are we ?
Followed all the reviews and info on the 515s when they first went on sale. When Musicians Friend dropped them to $350 I jumped. Half of their original price. My 2 cents, get the bags too, well worth it.
They were supposed to be delivered today and the UPS truck usually hits my area late in the afternnon. I had an afternoon gig today and decided to brave the heat and get the lawn cut this morning so I could play with my new speakers tonight.
Did the lawn in building heat, came in took a shower and planned to spend a few minutes relaxing before leaving for the gig. Look out front and theres the UPS guy stopping by early with my gear. Put them in my garage studio and then said " what the He//, I can't wait, one of these is going with me today !" Think kid on Christmas EVE. Unboxed one speaker and a bag and put it in the SUV. I figured what's the worst, I still have my other small PA in there if I have a problem with the JBL . Hooked everything up, and set the JBL volume to 5 and the EQ's flat. Started playing and WOW, nice even sound with a full bottom and nice smooth highs. Loved it.
I agree, not in the class of the DXR's but at 32's lbs and half the price I think its a winner deal. I'm sure the two I have will cover anything I may need.
Good luck with yours. I think you'll really like them

I’m enjoying the new Mackie SRM 350v3 powered speakers. Just got them last week. First Mackies I’ve ever owned. The sound is clear and balanced with the Tyros 5 and vocals. Love the weight---only 23 lbs.
