Has anybody tried these?

The four reviews are all very positive.
Of course deep bass is not their strength, but for medium gigs they might be great, as they only weigh 10 pounds per speaker, with very efficient class d amplifier (120 Watts RMS per speaker).

What is your budget?
For a little bit more you could get ev zlx12p which are at least10 x better.

I'm not interested in 30 pounds speakers, the Db K300 were just interesting because of their weight of 10 pounds. They are often presented as the best speakers of their class regarding compact size and weight. This is why I asked for concrete experiences with them.

I just ordered a pair of them: today there was a sudden incredible price hike of 85€ per speaker / 170€ per pair! Just one store still had them for the former price, maybe just for this evening, so I had a hard time chewing over the purchase decision. Looking forward to them...

I am digging out this old thread to praise the db K300 speakers again. Tomorrow I'm playing on a wedding ceremony in a chapel, in which there is no pipe organ. I'm going to use the pair of db K300 to amplify a great Hauptwerk full pipe organ sample (which came with my Motif Garritan GPO flash library).
Just made a sound check upstairs turning the house and stairway into a cathedral... Just 11 pounds per speaker.

I took a video of my wedding gig playing the pipe organ sample with the db K300 today (recorded with my new Sony HDR-MV1). I'm going to upload it shortly.

This is yesterday's live recording of the wedding with db K300: One of the speakers is visible being placed on a chair behind me.

The original note mentioned 4 review - were these review in avarious places, or all at one link? I have done some searching, but it would be good to know the location of those 4 particular reviews (links). These look like interesting speakers, esp. so light weight!

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, the 4 reviews are from customers who bought from Thomann directly (largest European online store based in Germany. Two of the 4 reviews are with text, but both in German. You can call them up. If you can't get a useful automatic translation from Google, I could briefly summarize them for you.

I was lucky to get a pair of these speakers for 200 instead of 300 euros each, just before the sudden price increase.

Regarding my recording, I felt that the recording overemphasizes their bass a little (probably because my recorder sat quite low on a chair with a cushion). They go down to 70 Hertz, but the bass is very reserved, their strength is extreme clarity and power in the mid and upper frequencies. But bass doesn't make them distort at all, they handle everything very well and just cut low frequencies away before they cause them trouble. And their manufacturing quality is excellent (manufactured in Italy). - As they don't sell in high numbers, there are not many reviews. You could also look into the reviews of their other models K162 and K70, which are less powerful.

I noticed I didn't post the other song I played at that wedding with the pair of db K300. It was an instrumental version of 'You raise me up' with piano, my brand new, breathtakingly real 'Digital Sound Factory Symphonic Strings for Motif' plus Garritan strings section. Again, I recorded it through 'air' via the microphones of my Sony HDR-MV1. So, these different sounds may be interesting again to judge the db K300 speakers.

Have any of you meanwhile bought or tried the db K300, too? - I am currently trying to downsize my PA equipment, as I've collected so many speakers and systems from very small to medium size that it's just too much. But every single speaker of my collection is great, from the tiny Bose Soundlink Air or db K300 to HK Nano 300 they all have great, powerful sound in relation to their low weight.
Having compared the db K300 with some other systems again today, I find they are the most 'clinical' due to their very reserved bass; you could say they lack warmth but on the other hand they are wonderfully clear and transparent and don't distort at high volumes. In case some of you made experiences with them in the meantime, I'd be interested in your opinions.

I think when we get to the point that a 30 pound speaker is too much to handle , it might be time to just stay home and sip tea

Mr. G, that depends a lot on your age and abilities. Though, I am gettin a bit lazy and might just consider sitting on the boat and sipping Margarettas. wink

I prefer doing sports outdoors and weight lifting in a gym instead of dragging 30 pound speakers to church weddings where they are exaggerated.
BTW, I consider your answer to my post by far the most stupid answer I ever got in this forum. For instance, what would you say to a great musician who can't lift 30 pounds due to severe back problems? - "Stay home and sip tea?"

There was a time when I would have said exactly the same thing. There will be a time when you may think differently about it too! smile
