Korg battery notice - 02/11/14 01:28 PM

http://www.korg.com/us/products/synthesizers/pa3x/

Not sure if everyone (PA3X/900) has seen this. Mine starts with 6000+, so I guess I'm good.

Question: Do I need to load in all past update OS or just the current one?

Thanks, exploring keyboard, although I'm a bit disappointed that it looks 'open box'. Settings made by a "john" tipped it off. argggg. They also forgot the power cord - what's that tell you. And Korg hours are better than a banker -sheesh.

It's very old news now. Mine was replaced almost two years ago on the PA3X. Models before April 2012 were affected.

T - correct. Stand corrected, it does not mention the 900.

My OS date is 3/11, but the ser # is 600... Is it possible someone played this for 3 years and never upgraded? With the serial number, is the history of my board available for consumer info/repairs/warranties?

There were only a very few that were affected. They replaced batteries in all of them more as a precaution.

Most manufacturers eliminate backup batteries many years ago. I would surprised if the 900 had one. No need for a backup battery when there are chips that do the same thing indefinitely and never need replacement. This technology changed with PCs more than a decade ago, when bios batteries were eliminated by a new form of chip.

If I remember correctly, the battery is for the clock and so it boots a little quicker. Nothing is lost if it fails.

Well, I sure love the board - fantastic. Graham, the keys are to die for - huge difference vs all 61s - much longer! (or it sure plays that way, all that matters).

GC tried to pull a fast one as NEW. I say camel cookies and I demanded a 'NEW' one. So my excitement is temporarily halted (GC policy that I have to return before they can place a new) - God only knows how long.

Zuki,

I can not believe GC gave you a better deal than Frank or several other known dealers????

Eery time I've checked GC, they have never had these keyboards in stock - you may still not get a "NEW" keyboard from GC.

Ditto.

Zuki, I would say you can just update to the latest OS. The battery allows the 3x to boot up a bit faster.

And - the 900 also has a battery!

Don't think so, Bill. I haven't seen anything anyway.

Glad you like the keys, Zuki. I just could not carry the weight. My back pain has gone since I switched to the lighter Pa900, so it's a trade-off.

Yes in deed the 900 has a battery - check page 433 in your manual.

Re: Korg battery notice - 02/14/14 08:08 AM

The PA3X has two batteries. One, a small CR2032, is used for the clock. The second, a much larger battery, is used to hold samples and factory resources (voices and stuff). The battery was included to shorten start up time. The PA3X can work without the RAM battery. It just takes a lot more time to boot up.

Many Korg's use a small battery for the clock that time stamps files when they are saved.

The larger sample backup battery that was used on many early Pa3X's did not contain current limiting circuitry and they were subject to run away current and occasional explosion. Replacement batteries were sent to users by Korg, and instructions were provided for their replacement. A small sticker was provided with the replacement that has a green check mark so that it is obvious that the replacement has been installed (assuming the installer used the sticker).

If you go to the link that Zuki provided in his first post and scroll down you will see a red comment on the battery problem. Click on it for details.
