Bill thanx for the video......but for the life of me as by listening to this I don't hear the big difference between the S950/T4/T5 at this time.

I think style is audio and a new guitar.I hate cheese organ sound.

Decent sound, slightly more punch to the drums but nothing that I've not heard before even from the T3..

A version from the T4 which I really like...

Man, that was excellent, Danny...the boy can not only play, but he's a great singer as well...definitely one my favorites by B.Adams. Played this one in a 6-piece cover band many moons ago.

The guy looks terribly young for an old fart...

They say playing the Tyros (any Tyros) makes you feel young again...maybe this guy was 70 before he started using it.

Great song done very well.....T4 sounds every bit as good as T5 until I hear different.........And of course with a little EQ as in this eg: Ive done the song can sound even better all around ...

And the young fella had the bridge in there as well. I liked what he did with the ending, too.

Bet you wish you'd demoed a different song Bill, now, don't you...chuckle... I say well done Bill.

The second video is much better,but so is the player too.I even liked T4 style which is not an audio style.

Yes this guy is extremely talented. Curiously, I'd like him to create the same set up and performance using a T5 because I can't believe he could make this sound any better than he's already done.

Whenever i compare those performances, i does not tell me anything about the instruments, but only something about player skills.

Bachus, I sincerely believe it has always been a case of the player - not the instrument. Some guys, such as Don Mason, can make a Kazoo sound great. Just about every MOTL arranger keyboard these days sounds fantastic. It's just a matter of what you want to spend and what your preferences are.

This is why I always stress the importance of the drums in an arranger. Bottom line, if you want to attract younger players, you need drum sounds that pop, styles that pop, and balances that don't allow you to swamp the drummer... Not exactly Yamaha's forte.

Am I mistaken, or were those two done on essentially the same style (thought some of the fills sounded very similar)?

The thing is, as Ian has alluded to, arranger perception is a marketing thing. Yamaha excel at marketing to the elderly, but have fallen a lot shorter when it comes to attracting young players to the type. WS's, synths and Stage keyboards outsell arrangers (at least in the same price bracket) by a wide margin. Why? Because the demos and content are aimed at the young. And they are the largest buying demographic (unless you count the toy keyboard market).

Now, once again, don't get me wrong... I think that Roland have also failed in providing much up to date marketing, and why they failed to include some loop content for the BK-9's loop player (so you could check out how contemporary that can make you sound in the store) beats me. But I can only imagine the spurt of interest in arrangers by the younger, market if things like this were the strong points of factory demos, not Shadows and Take the A Train!

We have somehow got to get these things into the hands of the young for the type to not die out with its elderly demographic. Time to put the hoary old NH material to bed, and set our sights on guys this age (the second one, LOL)....

NH entertainment is on the RISE big time!! .....
its not going anywhere....facilities are being built everywhere.

But the birthdate of most of the inmates is getting more and more modern..!

I just feel that it's time to put the 30's and 40's material to bed, especially when it comes to PROMOTING arranger sales.

I haven't done any 30s or 40s stuff in years. It's 50s 60s and 70s, and a smattering of 80s and 90s they tend to want.

I'm in my early 40's and as a music lover I appreciate almost all kinds of music, even the music that you've been describing and what the demo's have shown.

However, my primary genre is ambient / chillout, that's the area I play most of my music. I play covers using this type of sound. I was really happy that Yamaha started to develop this genre of music on the T4 however I was really disappointed to see that Yamaha have not taken this further or even added a single style for this section of music, that was the main reason why I waited before I decided to upgrade from the T3 to either T4 or T5. I chose the T4 as the T5 offered me nothing in this area. So yes I agree that maybe for the slightly younger guys like myself I would *prefer* if companies started to develop this area which is where I think would get a lot of younger players more interested in arrangers.

Primarily, I'm referring to how these things are marketed, not at anybody in particulars' set list.

But even 50's music is becoming something that only a tiny handful in our audiences can even remember from their youth. I certainly don't remember any music from the 50's, it's about the early 60's and onwards that was the music of my childhood and youth. Sure wasn't any big band!

Now, don't get me wrong, I've not only listened to much big band muusic, but some of my first pro gigs (as a young teenager) were playing in bigbands on t'bone. But it wasn't the music from MY generation (talkin' 'bout my generation!). That was the Beatles, The Who, The Stones, Motown, Stax...

I honestly think, if THAT is the music that dominates arranger factory demos (and onwards to the 70's and 80's), you are going to see an upwelling in use.

Danny... you really need to take a look at the BK-9. Not only does it sound pretty contemporary OOTB (drums and synths are to die for, as usual for a Roland), but the synced audio loop thing puts it square into modern WS/VSTi/loop territory.

Perfect for chillout and ambient, where the absence of loops makes most arrangers not really suitable for the job.
