Laptop Vs. Ipad - 07/12/13 01:47 AM
A while back I wrote in a post that my laptop was a better choice over my Ipad; I was wrong, sorry.
Now that I have learn more about my Ipad it goes form a job, to my book reading and my to planning the work I do for my church classes. Just added a keypad. It’s now with most of the time.

John, no need to apologize. Glad to see you using the iPad to the max. Like you I read everything on the ipad i.e. owner's manuals, the local newspaper, magazines. Watched a movie on a recent airline trip. I'm dabbling with photography too and what a great way to display my photos........and what a bonus being able to store volume after volume of lead sheets.

I too use an iPad for MANY things - including music playing. Using unrealBook for charts/sheets works perfectly for me. What I find is that there is a dilemma in that there are SO many good music-related apps (virtual instruments, MIDI control apps, even vocal processing apps) ... that I'd need 2-3 iPads to do all the things I'd like to do!
I have an iPad 3 and keep my old iPad 1, and I usually have both of them on my keyboard rack, one for reading music, and the other for various things like using OSC for MIDI controls, or to use a virtual instrument, etc.
I was thinking of exploring the ik multimedia iRig PRE for a mic, and using their VocAlive app - but I'd need yet another iPad (or iPhone) to dedicate to that! :-)
Perhaps I need to buy up a few old iPad 2's or similar 'cheap' ...

Multitasking... tablets and iPads have a ways to go to beat the laptop.

Don’t go past portability, size, touch screen, available Apps, and just a lot of new technology.
I’m sure a new laptop with a touch screen would be nice to have.
One other thing --- there is a difference in size when it is sitting in front of you on stage. People get to see more of the player.
Just thoughts, John C.

My iPad is doing its job ... and looks better, takes up less space and fits on the stand SO sweet .... I don't miss the laptop in my rig. It's really a jukebox, mostly, anyway - so anything would work pretty well. The ipad just does it with such style and grace, that's all. It's the wave of the future ... and I like being there early!
