ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/29/13 03:55 PM

I'm am so Angry with my New Purchase.............

I always use a APEX pro two tier stand for years, but needed a X stand for studio and smaller gigs also....here's the story,.........I bought a heavy duty "On Stage X stand" well built with 30mm tubes to fit the collar of my Ultimate support Mic Boom.......BUT,.....since it only has FIVE height positions I couldn't find the correct one to fit my needs playing sitting down......either too high or too low.
I sent it back to the store and exchanged it for the
Ultimate Support IQ3000 X Heavy Duty stand that has NINE Positions...it came today ...wow what a super stand and the 9 positions work for me BUT,...the TUBES are bigger then 30mm which DON'T FIT THE COLLAR OF MY MIC BOOM!!!!
mad mad mad computer mad mad mad
I cont seem to find another mic boom that will attache to this stand......does anyone know of a universal type adjustable Mic boom that would fit this stand, don't know exactly the tube diameter but its bigger then 30mm. ....
I don't want to carry a separate Mic Boom.

Pissed in NJ....

There's this little adjustable boom I had to use with the PA-AS system ... that might work! It's a thumb screw and infinate opening. (within reason)
smile
The second picture shows it a little better - it's about 6" tall and you thread your mic boom onto it.

Dave, but how does it go around the TUBE and clamp down tight? and does it stay attached when stand is closed like our other ones or do you have to remove it?

here you can see the difference in size...

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/29/13 05:51 PM

OK .......Uncle Dave just gave me a great idea......since the tubes on the X stand can be unscrewed and removed as shown ....
I am going to go to Home depot tomorrow and find a piece of metal tubing that will fit the 30mm collar.....then just cut it to size,.....spray it black, ...drill two holes,
screw it back on...and BAM!!!!
I'm a happy camper! dance2

I hope,..

I use a Ultimate Support IQ-2000. The On-Stage Stands Universal Keyboard Mic Attachment Bar KSA7575 works for me. Then I just picked a boom that worked for me. I liked it so much, I added it to a second IQ-2000. Works for me.

All you need is a piece of copper or chrome plated steel tube that will fit both fixtures.

At Home Depot I was able to get a 1" diameter piece of strong Black PVC tubing in the plumbing dept......cut it to the desired length, wrapped it a few times with Gorilla tape to take up the slight difference in diameter, shoved it inside the X stand Tier tube 19"....drilled two holes for the screws thru the existing holes.......screwed it back onto the X stand and attached the Quick Lok Mic Boom Coupling as pictured. clap
I will try it out on tonight's Dinner gig & report back. cool2

Fran as you are well aware of my father 90 yrs old still to this day won't let me use or even touch a POWER Tool of any kind and doesn't trust me with them lol........anyway...

As well as this project went on paper and in theory it was a TOTAL Disaster on stage tonight at my gig!!!!mad mad mad
First of all after I set up I turned the plastic wind nut on the quik lok collar and one side of the Wing broke off WTF!!!
then even though the collar fits the PVC pipe I installed no matter how tight you made it it world still slip and rotate around to the point I had to tie the Mic wire around the boom and then to the tier to stop the boom from falling over onto my KB dammmiiitt!!! the compression of the collar clamps inside has a greater force then the density of the heavy duty PVC tube causing it to collapse a bit when tightened....this needs a METAL Tube only....but I'm so disgusted with it after all this I just gave up and will now only use the X stand as a back up to my TRUSTY Apex 49pro ....or in the studio. Its a great heavy duty X stand best I have seen But since Ultimate Support for what ever reason doesn't make a mic Boom for it its not going on my stage period......
end of story. computer

Why not just use a standalone mic stand? It can't REALLY be that much of an effort, surely!!!

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/30/13 07:38 PM

I really IS a drag to cart around a separate stand ... plus the footprint is often so small that the legs need to be placed a certain way to FIT, and they don't provide the best balance. I agree - the all in one stand is the only way to go!

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/30/13 07:47 PM

yeah different strokes I guess, but in near 25 years I have never had an issue - and you get NONE of these problems...

rotf2 What would you do if you were a solo playing a guitar (no keys) would you fit a mic holder to the end of your axe wink

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/30/13 07:53 PM

When I do a guitar solo, as I will next month ... the best setup for me is still to use my kb stand in front of me. I'll just put my guitar effects on the top tier - I don't need foot control. I'd rather be able to tweak the settings by hand anyway, so the all-in-one stand is STILL in the rig!
smile
If it was a really scaled down, acoustic/type thing ... a simple mic stand in front of me would take up less space than a kb "X" plus a mic boom. Still ahead.

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/31/13 03:03 AM

Is there any issue with attached boom stands being microphonic to your pounding on the keyboard? I would have thought that for some of the heavier handed of us (or those where the keyboard is so light it tends to bounce a bit), it might be possible that the vibration from our playing on the keybed might travel up the boom and into the mike.

Has anyone tried making a recording with the arranger sound turned off, and see if the mike is picking it up?

I have always used a separate mic stand, but if going this route, I might definitely try to make sure there is a layer of rubber between the keyboard stand and the boom stand. Or an isolated mic holder...

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 01/31/13 05:51 AM

Sure makes me glad I'm able to use a headset mic. wink And, Diki is correct in assuming those sounds are transmitted through the keyboard stand attached mic. You don't have to be heavy handed - they still come through, at least in my experience.

Cheers,

Diki, it totally depends on the mic. I generally use Sennheiser 855, and a studio-type mic holder. SM58 is particularly bad about transmitting lows up the mic stand.

Donny

I use this mic holder for both tubing sizes. It tightens securely to the stand.

Tube is 1 1/2" diameter.....30mm is closer to 1"..

gonna try ultimate support parts to see if they have the collar only for tier second tier tubes.....just got off the phone with them and the second tier isn't even released yet !! and they have no other parts for the iq3000 x stand so it's McGiver and completely change the BOTH tubes for 1" steel pipe and drill & attache them.. then add the 30mm collar or a separate Mic Boom stand. frown
Thank goodness for my great APEX 48 pro!!

Re: ULTIMATE SUPPORT IQ300 X stand.....No Mic Boom??? - 02/01/13 06:30 PM

Using my laptop I needed a place for my mouse; I didn’t like reaching up. I made a round wooden disk and attached it to a 10” piece of wood - it was tapered to fit into the stand. I put a small screw in the stand so that the wood could not turn.

I also found that a Mic. attached to the same type of stand would not stay put all the time, it would move slightly. I drilled a hole through the stand and the Mic. holder an inserted a hinge pin. Never moved again. It was also easy to remove that Mic. when needed.

A friend from this forum has given me the same head-set that Gary is using – it sounds better than my $575 Beyer Mic. but I have not tried it live yet.

I've been using a stand mounted mic boom for 20 years and the bleedthrough has never been an issue. It a question of noise floor, I guess. All I can cay is that no one has ever said ... "Whats all that banging noise?" Many pros, friends and fans have seen and heard me live on this very setup - no one has ever mentioned it. Do what sounds best, but scale down whenever possible.

Exactly Dave.... the IQ3000 Ultimate Support X stand has a
1 1/2" diameter tube which is much larger then 30mm (1")...I talked to parts dept at Ultimate Support,...they do not at this time make a Mic Boom for this model,..it certainly the best X stand on the market built wise, but you would need to use a separate Mic Boom, or build your own.
