Eat Your Hearts Out Yankees... - 01/17/13 12:41 PM

Yesterday was just a typical day in Paradise, which in this case is Marathon Key, Florida. I have a Tiki Bar job tomorrow night, and I'll be back at the City Dock Tiki Hut Saturday Night. I love this place.

The below photos are from yesterday's sail to Sombrero Reef, during which I tied the boat to a mooring buoy, did some snorkeling, then spent the remainder of the day sailing and enjoying the sunshine.

I hate the thought of going back north on March 1st.

A couple friends from Philly came down and spent a week aboard with me - they took the photos and I copied them into the PC for uploading. I have a couple hundred that I took as well.

Carol is still in Maryland, and the way things are going, I doubt that she will be coming down in February as planned.

Cheers,

She figured she would get even - she filled my book 7 days a week through January 30 2014. Guess I'll have to wait till October of 2014 to make a return trip to paradise. Probably be divorced by then, anyhow. wink

Don't need to go up as far as the Yankees, Gary. Only 47 degrees up here in Destin right now....

The same cold front ripped through here tonight, winds kicked up to over 35 knots, temperature fell from 81 to 60 in a half-hour. Damned, that's too cold for Paradise. wink

Absolutely awesome Gary!! Nothing like making a fellow old guy home sick. I not only miss the area, but I miss sailing too. I sailed for the better part of 20 years and as most of you know, I was born and raised in Key West. There's nothing quite like the color of that water!

Sail on,

Joe

In Grand Junction we're having an occasional inversion. Hot air on top trapping the cold air below. Sometimes it warmer at 8000-10000 feet on top of the Grand Mesa at the ski resort then here in the beautiful valley when this happens.

We haven't been above freezing since about 12/21/2012. It been anywhere from -1 to -14 when I leave the house in the morning. The hi's have been from 12 to 22 degrees above with a couple of 20's to mid 20's sprinkled in between.

Believe it or not for me and a few folks it can be a bit enjoyable especially when the sky is solid blue it doesn't feel bad. I'd say that 80% of the winters I've lived here since 1976 are magnificent. Man you wouldn't believe 35 degrees, no humidity, the sky clear as blue glass, it's a construction workers paradise with a flanneled shirt.

I can be skiing in 40 minutes if I wanted to. I like it.
