Proof you can get nice sounds out of old bits of tosh, add all this kit up Rudy has here and it's much less than the cost of a new Audya, you need a bit of space though. I reckon Deane might have enough space... party

Re: OLD KIT WITH NICE SOUNDS - 12/28/12 01:37 AM

Nope... just proof that superior musicianship trumps whatever dated sounds they might be playing on...

That string sound... It's been a long time since that awful Solina type string synth sound was held up as a 'nice sound' unless you are TRYING to sound dated!

Yes Diki,

I agree, you need to be a good player to get a good tune out of old gear as you well know.

Not too certain about that, one chap who saw me playing said " your not playing that, it's the KB that's doing it, your just sat there" rotf2 no I can't agree with you Donny, you can be average with a modern AKB and you will sound good, you would need to be bad to get clapped off stage. Or better still play to an audiance at the Tinnitus club, they won't care how you ssssssssssssssssssssssssound at least it will take away the hissssssing for a hour or so.. on the other hand you do need to get the notes in the right order. bounce

I just cant believe the talking ratio here vs the postings of any kind of playing, confused1 ......that says it all.
This takes the code of "silence" to a whole new level. If you on sites like PSR Tutorial, etc, everyone is posting songs enjoying each others music, learning new things, I always enjoy listening to Arranger KB players.. headphone ..is that just a Yamaha thing? or? confused1 anyway Happy New Year Everyone...just a few more gigs to go & I am done for "THIS" year. dance keys

How about you guys?..

Donny ... why not start us off for the new year by showing us what your KORG can do?

I have heard (and watched) Tony playing via Skype many times, and his fine skills are above reproach...and, the Tyros4 is just the icing on the cake.

'Nuff said!

Re: OLD KIT WITH NICE SOUNDS - 12/28/12 09:49 AM

Look Guys,

Let's face it if you change your arranger for a Hammond B3 with a rhythm box, it would be hard work, Rudy Rosa sounds good will all the arrangers features turned off, would we, not so sure.
Tony take what I say with a big pinch of salt, Deane will know what our sense of humour is like, you need to come here and see!

And like you said Donny needs to give us a full blown demo with him on the new Pa3x keys, you have all seen me on the Mighty Wurlitzer, in person coming out the floor, it's his turn to put money where the mouth is. rotf2

Happy New year all you SZ nuts... Hope you main man can sort out all the money problems you have in 2013.

Donny, I've been dying my hair for 20 years - it doesn't hurt a bit and I'm sure Nancy will be the first to tell you that you NEED the hair-do. And don't give me that crap about how white hair makes you look distinguished - it makes you look extinguished! Give it a try - you won't regret it.

Hell Gary,

Won't take much dye to dye your hair will it, I love the extinguished bit, you are using my material Gary, you can tell how old Donny is by the songs he plays, the mp3s could be any age. rotf2

I stopped dying my hair when it got to the point it just started looking fake.

I didn't want to end up looking like it had been drawn on with a sharpie pen like John Travolta.

That is so very true. All legendary recordings were made using outdated technology proving it is only the musicianship that really matters.

Re: OLD KIT WITH NICE SOUNDS - 12/29/12 09:11 AM

Tony,

I use Garneir Nutreese, #60, Acorn, which looks very natural, takes just 8 minutes to apply just prior to taking a shower, lasts for about 20 washings. Prices vary from $6 to $8, and you can always find cupons in the mailers that offer up to $3 off the price.

I do NOT recommend using some of the men's hair coloring agents - they look like shoe polish, or worse yet, a sharpie. eek I just wish I had more hair to dye.

All it does it draw more attention to you....nobody is fooled...
but hey if it makes you feel confident go for it....but seeing a 80 year old man with jet black hair is a bit much...
just isn't natural. Same thing with plastic surgery.surprised
less is more IMO. wink

Carry On

Re: OLD KIT WITH NICE SOUNDS - 12/29/12 12:37 PM

Interesting hijack. I've always prided myself in my appearance, both on the job and off. On the job, especially during the cooler months, I ALWAYS wear a satin shirt, matching tie, silk vest, black slacks, highly polished shoes, clean shaven, good hair-cut, and yes, I really do dye my hair and mustache. Granted, I don't look like I'm 50 years old, and that's just fine. But, when people ask my age and I tell them I'm 72 they usually say you look much younger. Is it the hair and mustache? I doubt it. But, my overall appearance and attire seem to make a difference.

Down here in Paradise there are a lot of wannabe entertainers, have guitar will travel types, many of which seem to think that appearance doesn't count. They dress in ragged-assed jeans that often look like they just changed their car's oil and wiped the hands on the trousers, a tee-shirt with something really dumb printed on the back and front, work-boots, and of course, some really dumb-looking, straw, cowboy hat that a real cowboy wouldn't be caught dead wearing.

Then we have those that wear baggy shorts that look like they could have a friend in them as well, a scuzzy-looking shirt that appears to have been slept on for a couple days before wearing, and a baseball cap that for some reason the bill is off to one side or another.

Many of those in the above two categories don't seem to know which end of the razor blade to use, but they all have at least a half-dozen piercings. Yep, gotta have those ear rings, nose rings, lip rings, tongue thingies, and of course, every square inch of their exposed skin is covered with some sort of tattoo. Yes-sir - really classy looking entertainers.

Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but as long as I have been an entertainer I've adhered to the "dress your best for the occasion" policy. When I was playing the nite-club circuit in Baltimore's Little Italy I wore a tux every night. You would be amazed at the number entertainers in Baltimore that still think jeans, a tee shirt and sneakers is their entertainment attire. Then they wonder why they don't seem to get the number of jobs the well dressed entertainers get. Amazing.

Cheers,

Gary cool

Gary ...you shouldn't be surprised as society as a whole has let is all happen in the last 30 + years, in all walks of life...schools, workplace, on stage, and everywhere else people used to have the decency to dress up a bit. BUT all that is over, and when are generation is gone it will only get even worse and worse...there will be 85 yr old people with all sorts of tattoos, piercing in all parts of their bodies, and every other unmoralistic concoction floating around and the sad part is people have taken on the apathy role and just throw their hands up and say "F&^% It" rolleyes .......
it's too the point where things like you stated above are becoming the "MINORITY"....hang in there buddy have another Green Margarita and "C'est la vie" rolleyes surprised cool2
